Base pay range

The Major Gifts Officer serves as a member of the frontline fundraising team, responsible for developing and executing comprehensive strategies to secure philanthropic support for the organization. This position requires a strategic mindset, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a proven track record of securing gifts (annual or major), cultivating donor relationships, and driving fundraising success.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to achieve ambitious revenue goals, including major gifts, planned giving, capital campaigns, and endowment growth.
  • Qualify, cultivate and steward relationships with major donors, ensuring personalized engagement and meaningful connections with the organization's mission and impact.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, board members, and volunteers to identify and prioritize fundraising opportunities, engaging stakeholders in the cultivation and solicitation process.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to volunteers involved in fundraising activities, fostering professional development and a culture of philanthropy.
  • Utilize data-driven insights and analytics to inform fundraising strategies, track progress towards goals, and identify opportunities for optimization and growth.
  • Represent the organization at donor meetings, events, and conferences, effectively articulating the organization's mission, vision, and funding priorities to diverse audiences.
  • Identify and research potential major donors who have the capacity and inclination to make substantial gifts to the organization.
  • Develop and implement cultivation strategies to engage major donors and build meaningful relationships with them over time.
  • Develop customized solicitation proposals and presentations tailored to the interests and philanthropic priorities of major donors.
  • Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, tracking qualification efforts, cultivation activities, solicitation progress, and gift outcomes in a donor database.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on major gift pipeline activity, fundraising progress, and donor engagement metrics to development leadership and senior management.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building abilities, with the capacity to cultivate and steward meaningful connections with donors, volunteers, and community leaders.
  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to develop and execute data-driven fundraising strategies that drive revenue growth and donor engagement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and fundraising concepts in a compelling and persuasive manner.
  • Proficiency in using fundraising software and databases, as well as Microsoft Office suite; experience with donor management systems and prospect research tools preferred.
  • Awareness of the moves management process and ability to guide donors from discovery phase to a major gift commitment.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles, with the ability to engage donors and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Passion for the organization's mission and values, with a dedication to advancing social impact and making a difference in the community.
  • Awareness of tax implications, legal requirements, and ethical standards related to major gifts, donor recognition, and gift agreements.
  • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills to make compelling asks, overcome objections, and close major gifts at significant levels.
  • Resilience and perseverance to navigate rejection, setbacks, and challenges in the major gift solicitation process, maintaining a positive attitude and focus on long-term donor relationships.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards, integrity, and donor confidentiality in all aspects of major gift fundraising and donor relations.

Pay Range: $84,300 - $141,138 based on total years of related experience
