PURPOSE STATEMENT
The job of Mental Health Therapist was established for the purpose/s of providing consultation, classroom assistance and training to school personnel; participating in the planning and implementation services for general education and special education students. In addition, the Mental Health Therapist will provide information on programs/services available to students and families as well as school and/or district activities and procedures; referring families to other agencies; and fostering an ongoing partnership between the home and school.
This position reports to Director of Student Support.

Ability-Based Competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: effectively communicate with persons of diverse backgrounds/knowledge/skills; confidentiality; decision making; flexibility; and reliability.

PURPOSE STATEMENT
The job of Mental Health Therapist was established for the purpose/s of providing consultation, classroom assistance and training to school personnel; participating in the planning and implementation services for general education and special education students. In addition, the Mental Health Therapist will provide information on programs/services available to students and families as well as school and/or district activities and procedures; referring families to other agencies; and fostering an ongoing partnership between the home and school.
This position reports to Director of Student Support.
Essential Functions
- Confers with teachers, parents and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating student progress and/or implementing student objectives.
- Identifies at-risk students for the purpose of providing support and referrals to ensure student progress and ongoing involvement of family members in the educational process.
- Develops and/or implements annual IEP counseling goals for students with disabilities and collaborates with appropriate team members to document regular progress.
- Assist in developing plans (e.g. RTI, Individual Student Success Plan, Behavioral Intervention Plan, Individual Education Plan, etc.) for the purpose of providing individual or small group counseling, and/or other indirect support.
- Communicates and conducts meetings with parents (e.g. telephone calls, email, home visits, etc.) for the purpose of partnering and keeping them informed of student progress and addressing issues of concern.
- Coordinates activities with a variety of outside services agencies, school sites, etc. (e.g. mental health, probation, medical, etc.) for the purpose of providing referrals, connecting families to resources, and distribution of clothing, food, and supports to disadvantaged students.
- Makes home visits for the purpose of assessing student needs and/or consulting with parents on student’s progress at school.
- Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records (e.g. daily case notes, annual reports, classroom observations, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring documentation for future reference in accordance with administrative and legal requirements.
- Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Research and coordinate with community agencies and leaders for the purpose of building resources and expanding program capabilities.
- Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. IEPs, activity logs, correspondence, memos, treatment plans, Medicaid billings, reports, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and evaluating individual and programmatic growth.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Enforces district and school policies for the purpose of maintaining safe and secure district facilities.
