Job Description
KTBC Fox 7 the Fox O&O in Austin, TX is re-imagining how local news is gathered and delivered. We’re hiring a reporter who loves breaking news and owning the big story of the day. Someone who understands that the role of a reporter must evolve to meet our audiences where they need us. We’re big on non-traditional techniques that bring relevant, memorable, and impactful storytelling to our website, news and streaming apps, social platforms and eventually on linear television.
The ideal candidate will have an ability to create content in ways that defy conventional thinking about television news. You’ll need to be a self-starter with excellent writing skills and have a vision for how each story will be told for different platforms. You’ll need to be able to shoot and edit video, although this is not considered an MMJ position. Strong live skills and the ability to meet frequent deadlines are critical for those breaking news and severe weather situations which often define the Austin news landscape.
We set big goals for audience engagement on social platforms and the reporter will be given the tools to meet and exceed those goals. We also expect reporters to be adept at using social media to enhance their newsgathering and reach broader audiences while maintaining journalistic integrity. Minimum 2 years of experience on-camera in a small to medium market newsroom is preferred. We’re a 24/7 news operation, so you must be able to work non-traditional hours, including early morning or late-night shifts, weekends and holidays as needed. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to successfully pass a background check.
We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. We will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories consistent with applicable law.
At FOX, we foster a culture and environment where everyone feels welcome and can thrive. We are deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including attracting, retaining, and promoting diverse talent across our company. We live in a diverse world, with different ideas and different perspectives that come together to spark new ideas and make great things happen. That means reflecting the diversity of the world around us is critical to our company’s success. We ensure that our viewers, communities and employees feel heard, represented, and celebrated both on screen and off.
