How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)

This Payroll Specialist position is responsible for oversight and management of daily HR operations with a concentrated focus on the Flight payroll processing area which comprises of Flight Attendants and Pilots.

  • Relationship management with Crew support to ensure compliance with practices and procedures.
  • Processing and closing out of Pilot Payroll timely prior to payroll execution.
  • Familiarization and Adherence to all Flight pay practices for active/inactive/termination population for both Pilots and Flight Attendants.
  • Collaboration between IT and Pilot Flight pay to ensure transmission of pay file, validation and processing.
  • Run and Review exception reports. Research and resolve all case tickets in a timely manner.
  • Partner with the Time and Attendance team to ensure data validation for all Flight hours are processed timely to meet payroll run times.
  • Vendor oversight to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing; delivery of regulatory or compliance changes that impact Payroll initiatives; compliance with State and Federal payroll tax regulations; alignment with vendor regarding all policies, programs and processes related to the functional area(s); hold the vendor accountable functional expectations and standards.
  • Utilize standard management methodologies such as risk management, cost control and project planning.
  • Finance oversight to ensure posting are accurate and complete; running of reports to assist in account reconciliation.
  • Partners with vendors to deliver an exceptional customer experience across all channels.
  • Provide leadership and subject matter expertise in the recommendation, conceptual design, and implementation of new system functionality and modifications to systems to enhance user experience, increase efficiency, and ensure continued compliance. Facilitates and participates in the governance processes used for analysis and approval of change orders, as well as reprioritization of change activities.
  • Provides critical management and direction of third-party partners. Manages interactions with vendors or Delta IT as it relates to data security, data management, interface management, issues management and escalation.
  • Maintain payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures. Is knowledgeable of all current and new/upcoming changes in legislation/guidelines – proactively advises leaders of changes and provides recommended actions.

What You Need To Succeed (minimum Qualifications)

  • A proven ability to work in a diverse team responsible for the management of daily HR operations including payroll functions for Flight Operations
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in accounting, finance or business or 5 – 7 years of experience in payroll role required
  • Minimum 4 - 6 years of SAP payroll experience or work with another ERP payroll software is required.
  • Excellent understanding of data and technology, hands on use of all tools expected, experienced with Excel and MS Access
  • Experience working cross divisionally with all business areas.
  • Solid project management skills required; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; and ability to implement change.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and uncertainty in a dynamic environment.
  • Must be results oriented and capable of meeting or exceeding aggressive deadlines with attention to detail and highest quality results.
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.
  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.
  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
