Base pay range

$115,000.00/yr - $130,000.00/yr

Our client, an industry leader in developing land, residential, commercial, retail, multi-family, and mixed-use properties, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to join their team. The Project Controller will be responsible for managing the accounting and financial aspects of multiple large land development projects, as well as contributing to the corporate financial closing process. This role requires strong cross-functional collaboration with internal and external parties and shareholders.


This position is an in-office role located in Ft. Lauderdale. It is not being offered as hybrid or remote.


Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all expenses related to land development projects, including contractor payments, materials costs, and operational expenses. Ensure expenses are accurately recorded and tracked against project budgets.
  • Manage cash flow for land development projects, including monitoring cash balances, preparing cash forecasts, and managing fund requests to/from Private Equity investors.
  • Utilize ERP systems to record and track financial transactions
  • Close the books for land development project on a monthly basis. Prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, and review financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
  • Work with Project Team to develop project budgets and forecasts. Monitor project expenses and compare actual performance against budgeted targets.
  • Collaborate effectively with the larger Project Team, as well as internal accounting and financial teams, to ensure alignment of financial goals and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations in all financial activities.
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting as needed to support strategic decision-making.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements within the accounting and financial functions.
  • Mentor and develop staff within the accounting team.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA certification preferred.
  • 5+ years' of experience in accounting roles, with a focus on real estate and/or land development preferred.
  • Strength in performing month-end close activities and preparation of financial statements.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, with experience in financial reporting and analysis.
  • Experience managing fund requests and communication with Private Equity investors preferred.
  • Proven experience with ERP systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of accounting and finance.
