Are you a rising star in the field of journalism, looking for the chance to make your mark and grow your career? The Southern Maine Weeklies is seeking a seeking a dynamic individual to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious journalist to become an integral part of the Maine Trust for Local News mission to deliver impactful journalism that serves our communities.

In this role, you will be responsible for reporting, writing and photographing community news and feature stories for The Portland Forecaster.

Responsibilities Include

  • Write compelling stories about community events, emerging trends and news.
  • Explore opportunities for investigative and enterprise stories.
  • Cultivate meaningful in-person connections with municipal and community leaders, as well as the wider public.
  • Attend various meetings and events, capturing both stories and accompanying visuals to enrich our reporting.

Qualifications

  • High energy and enthusiasm for the mission of the Maine Trust for Local News
  • Able to file content quickly to prioritize digital publication
  • Attentive to details, including grammar, spelling, Associated Press style
  • Demonstrate good organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with people respectfully
  • Reliable, dependable and able to maintain regular and punctual attendance
  • Be proactive and able to take initiative to solve problems and anticipate needs.
  • Have reliable transportation and clean driving record

This position is based at the Portland Press Herald newsroom in South Portland.
