Research Assistant
Job Description:
Position Purpose:
The Research Assistant (RA) will primarily support a research study that will examine the transition into the workforce among young adults. RA activities involve participant recruitment and communication, participant tracking and retention, reviewing data quality and managing datafiles, managing participant payments, documenting project procedures, programming surveys and assessment batteries, helping the Principal Investigator (PI) manage and track data submissions for the NIAAA Data Archive, and supporting all other investigator research needs. The RA will conduct virtual interviews with young adults. The RA is expected to generate and maintain project documentation, conduct reviews of the empirical literature as needed, and assemble requested materials for IRB modifications, manuscript and presentation preparation, and progress reports. Other activities will include collection, organization, scoring, and management of data and helping with data analysis. Opportunities for authorship on peer-reviewed publications will be available.

Major responsibilities:
- Participant scheduling and study sessions 30%
- Participant recruitment 20%
- Participant tracking and monitoring completion status 20%
- Program surveys and document assessment batteries and study records 10%
- Assist with preparing reports and dissemination materials 10 %
- Serve as fund custodian for disbursement of participant payments 10 %
Education & Experience
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years’ experience (4-6 years preferred)
- Required: Proficiency in Word and Excel
- Required: Experience in research design and experience with human subjects research
- Required: Experience in programming online surveys (e.g., Qualtrics software)
- Experience managing databases is preferred
- Experience in the fields of addiction and/or substance abuse is preferred
- Experience with management of daily diary data is preferred
- Experience with SPSS software preferred
- Flexibility in work schedule is preferable, including possible evening hours and weekends
- Personal transportation is preferred.
- Experience with or interest in social media/marketing preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effort to meet project goals
- Openness to and interest in learning new skills
- Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community
- All offers of employment are contingent upon a criminal background check and education verification satisfactory to Brown University.
- This is a fixed term position with a current end date of September 1, 2026 which may be extended based upon available funding. This position entails sharing a commitment to accomplish the goals of the research program. A commitment of at least one year is expected; position can be renewed further based on mutual agreement.
- Position may require flexible hours (e.g., evenings, weekends) during some phases of the study, to meet participant needs.
- This is a hybrid position.
