Job Description Summary

The Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences is seeking a candidate to work as a Research Assistant under the supervision of Dr. Allison Sylvetsky. Projects will focus on maternal, infant, and child nutrition, with an emphasis on investigating effects of sugar and sweetener exposure on maternal and infant health. This position will be responsible for assisting in the recruitment, screening, scheduling, and enrolling of study participants; conducting in-person and virtual study procedures and assists in collecting demographic, anthropometric, dietary, biological and behavioral data; entering, and assisting in the management, organization, and analysis of study data; assisting in the preparation of academic manuscripts, posters, and presentations. This Research Assistant will conduct the above-described research activities, under general guidance from the Principal Investigator, Dr. Allison Sylvetsky. This position reports to the Principal Investigator. The selected candidate will contribute to research by:

  • Assisting in the collection and handling of biological specimens including blood, stool, urine, and breast milk.
  • Entry of demographic, anthropometric, medical, dietary, and behavioral data.
  • Contributing to literature reviews, progress reports, and grant applications.
  • Assisting in the development of scientific presentations, abstracts, and/or manuscripts.
  • Contributing to mixed methods data collection, organization, coding, and analysis focused on maternal health.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:

  • A commitment to working in multidisciplinary teams and developing and maintaining positive relationships with study participants, co-workers, and collaborators.
  • The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with mothers, children, and/or families in a clinical or research setting.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, and an interest in human nutrition, physiology, health behavior, medicine, and/or public health.
  • Proficiency in word processing and data management software is expected.
