The George Washington University invites applications from candidates interested in contributing to its vibrant basic and translational research program at the George Washington University. We are seeking a candidate to fulfill the role of Research Assistant in Cancer Immune Engineering working under Dr. Rohan Fernandes and Dr. Elizabeth Sweeney. The Fernandes group (https://fernandeslab.smhs.gwu.edu/) works in the field of immune engineering to devise innovative solutions to fight cancer and other diseases using nanotechnology/nanomedicine and immunotherapy. A suitable candidate for this position would therefore have research interests in cancer biology, biomedical sciences, and engineering.
This research support position contributes to research/development by assisting with experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. The core responsibilities of this position include assisting with data collection and administration of experimental procedures and assisting with administrative aspects of preparing manuscripts for publication. This position may perform some lab maintenance duties as a secondary function. The Research Assistant will be under immediate supervision of Dr. Sweeney, who closely works with Dr. Fernandes (PI). The primary job functions of this position do not require exercising independent judgment. This position reports to the PI and will receive training and mentorship from the PI and senior personnel of the team, including Dr. Sweeney.
Responsibilities Include
Assists in conducting experiments consistent with the timeline and objectives of assigned ongoing projects.
Assists in the review of literature and with guidance from the PI, collecting, analyzing, and reporting data related to assigned projects.
Follows established protocols and procedures in the lab, complying with biosafety guidelines and good lab practices.
Assists the PI and members of the team with maintaining and troubleshooting equipment.
Participates in group meetings and assists in the presentation of data
Assists the PI with the synthesis, biofunctionalization, and characterization of nanotechnology-based platforms.
Assists the PI in the generation of functionalized immune cells from various donor sources e.g., PBMCs
Assists the PI in testing of the therapeutic platforms described above both in vitro and in appropriate animal models.
Assists the PI with the patient derived specimens and samples
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biology, or a related field is preferred.
Experience with working in an independent research laboratory is desirable.
Hiring Range $17.50 - $22.51
