Safety and Security Officer

Midland University, a private, faith-based, liberal arts university in Fremont, Nebraska (just outside of the Omaha Metro), is seeking a proven leader to serve as a Safety and Security Officer.

This is a full-time, 12-month, hourly position, working 4 ten-hour days per week. Typical hours are 8:00 pm-6:00 am. Start date is to be determined.

Job Description

Reporting to the Safety and Security Director, this role ensures a safe campus environment for students, employees, and guests. The Officer conducts patrols of campus grounds to prevent crimes, confronts suspicious persons and violators of conduct, documents incidents reports, and will investigate disturbances. The Officer responds to calls on-campus requesting assistance from students, faculty/staff, and guests. The Officer coordinates emergency personnel when appropriate, and conducts preliminary investigations into crimes occurring on-campus. The Office of Safety and Security assists the Department of Residence Life with education and enforcement of campus policies in the residence halls. This includes the search and seizure of illegal or banned substances not allowed on campus, provides security at University events and activities when necessary, attends training sessions, assists with enforcing all campus policies and residence hall rules and regulations. The Officer must be comfortable working with Fremont Police and Fire Departments when necessary, and operate under a high level of confidentiality.

Essential Job Duties

  • Patrol campus buildings and grounds, in assigned areas by various means, to promote safety, identify unsafe conditions and suspicious activity, document violations of university policies and state laws, and respond to incidents and complaints as necessary.
  • Respond to requests for assistance, serious incidents and emergencies. Serves as a first responder to fire alarms, medical emergencies, and conflicts on campus.
  • Manage incidents using problem-solving and de-escalation strategies in accordance with university policies and procedures.
  • Conduct preliminary and follow up investigations as needed. Complete detailed & professional incident reports and document shift activity via logs.
  • Support educating the campus community on topics in safety, security and university policy through interpersonal communications and enforcement.
  • Provide general security services across university facilities such as locking and unlocking buildings, rooms, gates and vehicles.
  • Maintain safe and orderly campus parking lots and roadways through parking education and enforcement.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A valid driver's license
  • No criminal record
  • Ability to demonstrate the highest ethical and professional behavior working with
  • students, administration, and law enforcement and rescue personnel
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions
  • Must be able to walk campus grounds, climb steps to secure buildings, and operate a motor vehicle and golf cart to patrol campus
