Toho International, Inc. is the U.S. subsidiary of Toho Co, Ltd (“Toho”), a Japanese entertainment studio focused on the development, production, exhibition, and distribution of compelling, live action and anime content including motion pictures, television, and theater. Toho International, Inc. manages and commercializes Toho’s intellectual property portfolio with a focus on the Godzilla brand. The company continues to build upon its English-language social media presence for the Godzilla brand, launching official YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, as well as the website Godzilla.com and its built-in Godzilla Store.


The Sr. Accountant and Analyst is a critical role for the Finance and Accounting team as it supports the overall business, ensuring day-to-day finance operations are carried out timely, while also adhering to the accounting, controls, and compliance standards set by US GAAP, US GAAS, and Toho Co, the parent company headquartered in Japan. The right person possesses curiosity and has a natural desire and ability to learn the existing finance and accounting operational, monthly close, and reporting processes and also can openly share their experience and thoughts on improvement to strengthen the overall team. The Sr. Accountant and Analyst will excel at and be comfortable in the day-to-day operational/transactional accounting detail of a company and have a willingness to partner with the Controller and Manager to assist in strategic forward-looking budgeting & forecasting.


How you drive success:

  • Learn existing accounting processes and take ownership of areas that include AP and procurement, cash withdrawals and deposits, credit card and reimbursements, general operating expenses with opportunity to grow into other areas such licensing revenues, e-commerce revenues, inventory and cost of sales.
  • Prepare account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts including cash, prepaid assets, deposits, fixed assets, accounts payable, lease assets and liabilities, and others.
  • Set-up vendors, process invoices, and initiate payments using Bill.com and various banking systems
  • Partner with Japanese speaking business partners in Japan and New York about business and accounting matters.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly budget vs. actual reports for Manager and Controller to review.
  • Ability to support in preparing external audit and tax PBC requests for timely submission and completion quarterly and year-end.
  • Continue to execute existing accounting processes and controls and escalate issues if identified.
  • The ability and courage to share thoughts openly on areas that can be improved.
  • Special projects as needed


Success Factors:

  • A minimum of 3 to 5 plus years of relevant experience, preferably CPA license with public
  • accounting experience (Big 4 is a plus).
  • Proficient in the Japanese language, A PLUS
  • Strong technical/operational accounting background including prior experience in early-stage, high growth companies with the need to scale and build infrastructure.
  • Has a natural curiosity and desire to learn and is not complacent with accepting the status quo
  • Demonstrated track record of enhancing and ensuring timeliness of accounting.
  • Thorough and detail-oriented with the insight to anticipate problems while creating new and innovative solutions.
  • Ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization to articulate an understanding of the business through the numbers.
  • Demonstrated good judgment of time management as well as identification, escalation and communication of issues.
  • Commitment to excellence in both internal/external customer service and team building.
  • Deadline oriented: recognizes the importance of delivering a high quality, accurate and meaningful product in advance of deadlines.
  • Ability to work sufficiently in a growing environment and be flexible with change.
  • Experience or interest in learning financial analysis including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Systems experience with the following is a plus: QuickBooks, Ramp, Bill.com, Airtable, Dropbox, Box, Google Suite. We are industry agnostic – ideally, there is a strong preference for someone that has intellectual property, licensing, online/ecommerce, or merchandising/retail background (license agreements, inventory management, revenue recognition, and reporting), but we are also focused on experiences building out accounting/finance organizations for growth companies
