Senior Digital Retoucher

The Senior Digital Retoucher will oversee all asset color retouching which includes marketing, lifestyle, product photography and CGI for West Elm and its verticals. This role will establish color and QC workflow in addition to retouching style guides and SOPs for internal use as well as vendors and marketplace partners. This role will oversee retouching team and report directly to the VP of Creative Operations.

Responsibilities Include


  • Ensure color consistency across product collections and assets.
  • Retouch all Marketing assets and be the final QC on all product assets to ensure color matches back to actual product samples and west elm established retouching standards – crops, white balance, light exposure, etc.
  • Ability to perform complex image work to compensate for imperfections in product samples and cleaning up sets. ie. cloning out scratches in wood and seams in walls and floors, adjusting fabric colors to balance to the merchandise.
  • Production of high quality, consistent and creative results in a timely manner.
  • On set quality assurance and color expert on all images.
  • Adhere to color correction standards.
  • Maintain file size and crop specification guidelines.
  • Oversee progress of daily/weekly workflows, manage, and prioritize workload.
  • Maintain digital asset file/structure organization and naming conventions.
  • Ensure the accuracy and consistency of the image capture process and CGI asset creation.
  • Serve as the technical and color expert relating to the capture process and tool functionality.
  • Receive creative direction from Photographer, Art Directors, and Creative SVP.
  • Oversee Retouching Style Guides & SOP’s for internal, vendor, marketplace
  • Release images (making selects and tracking images’ status).
  • Attend photo shoots as needed to assist with special projects that require a imaging perspective (i.e. Strip ins, complex compositions).


Qualifications And Experience


  • 3+ year’s experience retouching and tracking high volume images.
  • Experience in managing a team of retouchers
  • Highly proficient in all aspects of digital image quality and output. File size, light, color balancing and retouching.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and resourcefulness in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of basic print production or prepress file prep is not required but very helpful.
  • Familiarity with studio tools, lighting, technical software and systems.
  • Formal training in the use of digital camera systems is a plus.
  • Detailed and solution orientated
  • ensuring all others teams’ needs and deadlines are met
  • Understanding of, and appreciation for the west elm aesthetic and goals.
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables concurrently and be highly organized
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and proactive communication skills.
  • Strong management and strategic capabilities (experience in working closely with non-technical team members)
  • Ability to wear many hats with a “do whatever it takes” attitude
  • Reliable, self-starter—can also work in cross-functional situations.
  • Ability to work efficiently against tight deadlines and lead process improvements and operational implementation/execution
  • Working knowledge of print and digital color spaces and processes.
  • Familiarity with production tools like project management platforms (Airtable, Workfront, Done Done, WCM)
  • Familiarity with Data Asset Management systems.


The expected starting pay range for this position is $80,000 - $95,000 annually. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
