Senior Director, Fleet & Safety:

The Senior Director, Fleet & Safety will have ownership developing and improving Safety strategy and Safety Culture for 520 current drivers.

Job Type: Full-time

Responsibilities

• Develops, organizes, and manages the operations and activities of a comprehensive driver fleet & safety program leading a team of 15 direct reports (12 Fleet & Safety & 3 Recruiting).
• Goal is to is to maintain current CSA score (current is 39), reduce non-reportable accidents (develop KPI’s), maintain HOS legality, and maintain or exceed current driver turnover of 45%.
• Provides resources to continually promote a culture of safety within the organization. Identifies accident and safety concerns that directly impact company safety.
• Determines how to incorporate additional training and safety awareness into the driver training program.
• Ensures information being presented to drivers is compliant with federal and state regulations.
• Confirms compliance with federal regulations governing industry.
• Reviews pending and upcoming changes to FMCSA regulations to ensure company is prepared for future compliance requirements.
• Reviews driver orientation curriculum and implements changes to address deficiencies.
• Reviews safety events to identify preventability and training gaps.
• Ensures drivers are trained on required CMV inspections (pre- and post-trip inspections).
• This position will have ownership for the overall driver fleet & safety process including application processing, qualifying, testing, training.
• Travel 25%.
  
  

Experience

• Safety Management, Class 8 Tractors (8-10 yrs)
• NATMI CDS Certified
• Personal contacts within industry & DOT
• Fleet size (350 trucks)
• Personnel management (15 associates)
• Claims prevention, investigation & analysis
• Driver training & orientation process
• FMCSR, HMR, CSA, OSHA, DOT, ELD, HOS
• Computer literate: Microsoft Office Suite
• Excellent communication (written, verbal, presentation)
• Innovative
• Inspiring
• Motivate, develop, and manage employees at all levels
• Passionate about safety
• Preferred (but not required):
• Driver Recruiting & Retention Strategies
• Managed recruiting & advertising budget (+/- $300k annual advertising budget)
• Participant in state and national safety organizations
• Education: Bachelor’s degree (i.e., Supply Chain, Logistics or Transportation)
