Senior Director of Development: Individual Giving and Major Gift Officer

The Senior Director of Individual Giving reporting to the Chief Development Officer, works both independently and in partnership with staff and volunteer leadership to cultivate Mid-Level Donors and Major Gift Donors ($10,000-$99,999) with a cumulative revenue of $1.5M annually after a reasonable acclimation period of portfolio development.

In addition, this position is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of (primarily) individual prospects and donors. Emphasis is on the continuing development of the Mid-Level ($10,000-$99,999) pipeline, aligning philanthropic desires of donors with organizational priorities. Prospect Pipeline sources include special events, direct mail responses, volunteers, and donor cultivation events.

The Sr. Director is an experienced fundraising professional with a track record of success in donor development, donor stewardship, and closing gifts from donors at the five-figure level and above and will help oversee a Development Associate that will support both individual giving and special events.

Specifically, The Sr Director Is Accountable For The Following

  • Partner with Senior Leadership, Directors, Advisors and other donors to identify and develop relationships with individuals who have five-figure giving potential and a propensity to support The Family Place mission and vision.
  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline of donors at the five-figure level, through collaboration with other members of the Development team, who are responsible for gifts of less than $10,000 and with CDO and CEO in order to regularly refer donors from the Mid-level to Major Gift level.
  • Engage Senior Leadership and Directors to advance strategies as appropriate.
  • Remain current as to The Family Place value proposition and Domestic Violence conversation in order to skillfully and credibly communicate to donors and prospects.
  • Build and maintain a personal portfolio of 100-150 prospects, and serve as the “moves manager” across all revenue streams.
  • Consistently steward and recognize gifts in ways that are meaningful to donors.
  • Accurately and timely record all donor activities in Raiser’s Edge NXT.
  • Develop an effective system of donor engagement utilizing a combination of videoconference, telephone, mail and email communications to effectively engage donors in creative ways to achieve requisite level of solicitations and closed gifts.
  • Significantly Increase the number of donors in the Planned Giving program
  • Partner with donors on relevant giving vehicles including DAFs, Stock Gifts, Estate Planning, as well as traditional giving avenues.
  • Uphold and engage in The Family Place core Cultural Behaviors.
  • Works systematically and strategically to build and develop a robust portfolio of supporters capable of giving at $10K to $99K+ through identifying and qualifying prospective donor leads identified via internal pipelines and networking with existing donor relationships.
  • Creatively crafts and customizes complex engagement plans to cultivate key supporter relationships to foster trust and gauge readiness for solicitation. These plans incorporate a variety of engagement strategies both active and passive - in person and virtual meetings, special events, phone calls, and written correspondence – keeping all activities entered in Raisers Edge.
  • Invites these key relationships into philanthropic partnership with The Family Place through bold solicitations aimed at securing high-level gifts (cash, DAF contributions, complex assets, multi-year pledges, planned gifts, etc.) that align their passions with top mission priorities.
  • In collaboration with our Marketing, Programs, and Development Team Members, thoughtfully connect major donors to the impact of their philanthropic contributions.
  • Set multi-faceted fundraising forecasts and timelines to achieve individual and team annual revenue goals to empower the mission of supporting survivors of domestic violence with emergency shelter, counseling and access to skills training that helps move families to independence following abuse.
  • Coordinates and facilitates meetings for major donors with The Family Place CDO, CEO and Members of the Board of Directors.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s Degree or related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of Annual and/or Mid-Level Gift fundraising experience and success.
  • Effectively applies moves management techniques and utilizes prospect research tools.
  • Sound judgment, initiative, independence and self-accountability while also working as a team member.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including superior active listening, observation, analytical, and problem recognition and solving skills.
  • Results driven, efficient, creative, solutions oriented, who thrives in fast paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of all information under her/his supervision.
  • Partner with the CDO to define strategies and outcomes for donor conversations.
  • Understands various computer systems and databases. Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel. CRM experience, preferably Raiser’s Edge NXT.
  • Local travel sufficient to support portfolio and achieve revenue goals.
  • Maintains a high level of personal integrity with regard to donor personal information and conversations and engages in donor centric fundraising that aligns with the overall goals and vision of The Family Place.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid Texas Driver’s License

Knowledge And Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of event planning, media, marketing, public relations, and promotions.
  • Knowledge of the Dallas Metroplex philanthropic community.
  • Strong communication skills, administration, and organizational and follow through skills.
  • Skilled and experienced in Microsoft Office Suites, proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Skilled in Raiser’s Edge or similar donor database software.
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings for special events.
  • Ability to drive personal vehicle for meetings and attending events.
  • Ability to cultivate sponsors and sponsorships for events.
  • Ability to work and think independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of data analysis is a plus

Mental and Physical Abilities: Duties are usually performed seated with occasional periods of standing or walking. Some physical effort is required associated with lifting and carrying objects (at least 50 lbs.)

Working Conditions: Work may be performed but is not limited to an office environment. Available for weekend and evenings events.
