The Sr. Instructional Designer leads projects and programs from needs assessment through design and development to evaluation and continuous improvement, working with team, leaders, vendors, and other stakeholders to deliver engaging, relevant, and appropriate content to grow PENN Team Members. This role is remote.

  • Designs, develops, and creates learning solutions for multiple delivery modalities including, but not limited to, instructor-led classroom, live virtual classroom, self-paced eLearning, and blended instruction.
  • Conceptualizes, plans, designs, and produces a wide range of specialized graphic and/or illustrative material, including graphics and multimedia such as video and audio.
  • Oversees projects and programs from start to finish, meeting deadlines and deliverables, consulting with Manager as needed.
  • Ensures all content is engaging, effective, and appropriate for the intended audience.
  • Prioritizes work to meet targets and goals; escalates concerns to Manager.
  • Develops content to support both existing and new programs.
  • Evaluates learning programs for adult learners and recommends improvements as needed.
  • Evaluates processes for opportunities to streamline and/or eliminate gaps to make design processes as efficient and effective as possible.
  • Assists with facilitating training as needed with all methods of delivery.
  • Maintains relationship with HRIS team to ensure effective course and content deployment; a ssists with loading, creating, and retiring courses in the Company’s LMS.
  • Serves as a liaison to and provides technical advice and guidance with corporate/property management on design and technical issues inside LMS.
  • Supervises the overall daily management of instructional design contractor.
  • Completes special projects as needed.
  • Enthusiastically supports, actively promotes, and demonstrates superior customer service in accordance with department and company standards and programs.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in all departmental and company matters.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance and reporting potential issues to management.

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university in Training/Learning & Development, Organizational Development, Instructional Design or Human Resources or at least five years’ related experience in Human Resources with emphasis in Learning & Development; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience developing training content for a large organization highly preferred.
  • Understanding of adult learning theories and evaluation methods.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills including the ability to own a project from start to launch.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Knowledge of learning and development trends and compliance requirements as they relate to state and federal laws and the gaming industry preferred.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Ability to follow standard procedures and understand impact of learning and development as it relates to HR policies and Team Members.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from stakeholders including corporate executives and team members, property executives and team members, and vendors.
  • Ability to resolve problems and conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.
  • Ability to be proactive when working on tasks and escalate priority work as needed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Technical and working knowledge in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Experience in instructional design tools such as Articulate preferred.
  • Experience in video-editing tools such as Camtasia preferred.
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job supervises a contractor role.

  • Evaluates contractor and delivers constructive feedback in regards to performance.
  • Determines recommendation for staffing (including interviewing and hiring) and scheduling (planning, assigning and directing work) to meet business needs.
  • Manages work procedures and expedites workflow.
  • Responsible for contractor performance (disciplining, coaching, counseling).
