Dimension & Scope

This position will be responsible for the leading the General Ledger team and the close process for Ciena’s North American entities and the Payroll processing for Ciena’s North American entities, and the timely reporting of consolidated financials. The right candidate will provide expertise on the Accounting and Payroll functions in a fast-paced multi-national organization.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Review and approve month end close journal entries, including payroll, accruals, prepaids, amortizations.
  • Review and approve bank accounts and balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis.
  • Reconcile stockholders equity and analyze CTA monthly.
  • Run management reports for Accounting senior management and prepare statement of cash flows.
  • Liaise and provide guidance with other departments within Ciena for balance sheet reconciling items, including Payroll, HR, Total Rewards, and Legal.
  • Manage the closing of general ledger and payroll processing in accordance with reporting deadlines.
  • Oversee BlackLine, including approving new users, importing monthly translation rates from Oracle, and ad-hoc jobs or improvement requests for users.
  • Work directly with internal and external auditors during year-end and interim audits.
  • Adhere to SOX controls and review procedures as needed.
  • Drive process standardization and improvements to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Manage professional level staff including training, coaching and manage day to day staff responsibilities against deadlines.
  • Run daily consolidations during the monthly, quarterly and annual close process
  • Other ad-hoc duties as assigned

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in accounting.
  • Minimum of 7 years General Ledger Accounting in a multinational organization.
  • Five years supervisory experience for General Ledger/Payroll preferred.
  • Experience with Automated Accounting Software (Oracle desired).
  • Experience with Blackline a plus.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • The successful candidate should have excellent organizational skills and be able to operate in an environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently with accounting team, HR, Legal, Tax, Payroll, company leadership and employees.
  • Superior analytical skills are needed to identify, analyze and prepare recommendations for improvements within the Accounting and Payroll areas.
  • Ability to produce accurate, dependable and consistent work within short timelines.
  • Must be proactive and able to work independently, in addition to managing a team of professionals.
  • Excellent attention to detail and sound business judgment are essential for this position.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, including V-lookup formulas and pivot tables.

Compensation And Benefits

The annual pay range for this position is $128,000 - $204,400.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
