The Opportunity:

The Vice President of Philanthropic Services will develop and execute a long-term strategy to increase JFCS’s fundraising and marketing in the community. This position will be responsible for the growth and development of the philanthropy department that encompasses annual fundraising, major gifts, planned giving and endowments, grants and corporate support, special projects, and volunteer programs. The Vice President (VP) of Philanthropic Services has oversight for the Annual Brighter Tomorrow Luncheon, all donor cultivation events, the Annual Community Report, fall and spring newsletters, and direct mail solicitations. In the role, you will supervise Philanthropic Services staff overseeing major gift fundraising, marketing, special events, community and governmental relations, local and national grant development, organizational communications, media relations, social media platforms, annual campaigns, tax credit programs, holiday mailings, seasonal giving campaigns, as well as the JFCS website.


How You Contribute:

The VP of Philanthropic Services acts as the primary source of leadership for the Philanthropy department, providing a defining and unifying vision that, through active collaboration, will give each member of the team the ability to reach new professional heights. The Vice President will form and sustain relationships with existing donors and develop and participate in a variety of activities, greeting and encouraging prospective donors. The individual will have frequent opportunities to publicly represent the organization as a community leader of JFCS. The position will supervise several team members in fundraising and marketing functions. The perfect fit will strategically guide multiple engagement campaigns, and personally cultivate and grow the donor base for donors of $10,000+. The position will lead and support a major gifts program with individuals, foundation and community support for gifts $10,000 - $1M. In addition, the Vice President will implement and plan individual cultivation strategies for planned giving commitments to grow the JFCS Legacy Society for endowments.


As an executive level staff member, the individual will inspire staff to increase our vibrant donor base and stretch the limits of innovation and creativity as an active and visible presence in numerous philanthropic communities and events in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The individual will develop pathways that lead to new donor and contributory interest for an organization that has withstood the test of time by providing behavioral health and primary healthcare services to children and adults of all faiths and diverse backgrounds. Our programs include counseling, mental health assessment and treatment; early childhood trauma assessment and treatment; child crisis intervention and rehabilitative services; primary care; support for victims of domestic violence, substance abuse, workforce readiness and high school equivalency exams for teens in foster care. Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated success as a development executive, ability to effectively create a fundraising strategic plan and operation.
  • Seven to ten years’ experience managing a successful, comprehensive, fundraising program.
  • Proven success in asking for, and closing, major gifts and building and maintaining long-term relationships with major individual donors, foundations, corporations, and other potential donors.
  • Comfort with building and maintaining a multi-million-dollar fundraising program.
  • A flexible and creative thinker able to identify and create new giving opportunities for programs.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with experience in development and marketing-related writing.
  • Proven success in managing and overseeing special events.
  • Ability to publicly present in a convincing and professional manner and to inspire and generate enthusiasm among donors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Enthusiasm, energy, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Experience collaborating and working with executive-level leadership team.
  • Knowledge and comfort with the Jewish community and history in the Greater Phoenix metro area.
  • Experience with grants and working with foundations.
  • Experience working with nonprofit Board of Directors and Philanthropic Services Committee, building positive and productive relationships to achieve collective mission and goals of JFCS.
