Job Description

The Website Accessibility Manager assists with leading and implementing the University’s plans to improve the accessibility of websites and communications while developing a robust digital accessibility compliance program. This person serves as the lead technical expert on website accessibility according to the WCAG standards, collaborating with key stakeholders to implement changes and provide training and technical assistance to other communicators.

Job Description:

  • Serve as a source of subject matter expertise and support on digital accessibility for all communications staff across the UM System, assisting web developers and communicators across the system in improving website accessibility.
  • Provide training and coaching for individual staff to build the knowledge needed for communications professionals at each University to design websites with accessibility features.
  • Provide strategic leadership to ensure websites comply with University policies, meet state and national legal requirements for accessibility, and create a more inclusive digital environment for the University community and the general public.
  • Coordinate with website editors to develop and prioritize remediation plans for identified accessibility issues and help with ensuring remediation of all high-priority University webpages and websites.
  • Both independently and collaboratively conduct in-depth Section WCAG 2.1 AA compliance assessments via manual reviews and using automated testing tools and assistive technologies. Maintain detailed records of accessibility testing results, remediation efforts, and compliance documentation. Generate regular reports for stakeholders, highlighting progress, challenges, and areas for improvement. Use results data to make improvements across the system.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and other information technology and digital colleagues to develop and implement enterprise solutions that support compliance goals.
  • Assist with establishing and supporting an institution-wide community of practice for accessible web development by developing guidance and resources and managing regular meetings and trainings.
  • Support leadership and the UM System Digital Accessibility Committee in developing and delivering awareness campaigns and change management programs to digital, web, and information technology professionals.

Shift

8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday-Friday

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of experience.

Demonstrated experience working in the field of website accessibility.

Deep understanding of accessibility standards and laws, in particular the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Section 508.

Strong understanding of how to build web pages using HTML, CSS, JavaScript.

Experience evaluating the accessibility of EIT resources (web-based applications, services, content, etc.) via manual reviews and using automated testing tools and assistive technologies (e.g. JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, ZoomText).

Strong organization and project management skills to effectively manage multiple projects and competing priorities and deadlines.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in teams.

Ability to present information to audiences with varying technical knowledge.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $70,000-$80,000
