Mayfield Senior School of the Holy Child Jesus, an independent Catholic girls’ high school in Pasadena, California, seeks a mission-driven, dynamic, and student-centered educator in the Social Sciences for the 2024-25 school year.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in best practices in teaching World History I and World History II, embrace the Holy Child philosophy of education, emphasizing innovation, academic excellence, and have a joy of learning. He or she should be able to inspire and engage students, fostering an environment where student agency is paramount and students develop confidence in their academic abilities. Additionally, the candidate should espouse a whole-child approach to education, recognizing and nurturing each student's unique strengths, needs, and potential.

Personal characteristics necessary for the position include positivity and enthusiasm for all aspects of school life including working with young women; warmth and a good sense of humor; patience and persistence; and excellent communication skills

Reporting directly to the Assistant Head of School for Academics, the teacher will:

  • Reflect the school’s mission and core values as a Holy Child school.
  • Create and deliver engaging World History curricula in a secondary school context.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents.
  • Value diversity and inclusive educational practices.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive classroom and laboratory by modeling expected behavior and standards.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and resources, that reflect multiple perspectives and encourage collaborative work in the classroom, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to further develop inclusive teaching and leadership practices
  • Collaborate well with colleagues on pedagogical approaches, curricular alignment, and instructional strategies.
  • Invest in the life of the school by participating in the advisory program, department, grade-level, and faculty meetings, and all aspects that support the student experience
  • Demonstrates a willingness to respond to individual learning needs.
  • Develops varied assessment tools to perform both formative and summative assessment; consistently and effectively evaluates student progress.
  • Practices a positive approach to classroom management.
  • Reflect the school's mission and core values as a Holy Child school.
  • Utilize a variety of innovative instructional strategies, materials, and resources that reflect multiple perspectives and encourage collaborative work, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully.
  • Embrace educational technology and curricular innovation, integrating new tools and methods to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to further develop inclusive teaching and leadership practices.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in History or a related subject, master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of teaching experience. Independent school or girls’s school teaching experience is preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents.
  • Reflect the school’s mission and core values as a Holy Child school.

Salary

The annual salary range for this position is $36,000 to $52,500. This range is based on our teaching salary scale which is determined by education and years of experience.
