- [Instructor] In order to do data science with health data, you first have to measure things, so you have something to work with. Now, when it comes to health data, the things that people are most familiar with are things, for instance, like maps, that show outbreaks of COVID or other diseases in their country, around the world, and the kind of statistic people are most accustomed to looking at, for instance, is mortality or death, usually expressed as the number of deaths per 100,000, and that's important because if you simply look at raw frequencies, countries with more people will always have more deaths, but they may not necessarily be more dangerous or risky places, and so it's important to make that adjustment. Also, some tables of mortality can adjust for age, where they look at the average mortality rate, say, for instance, of infants, and then things are different for young children and adolescents and adults,…
