Predicting outcomes

- [Narrator] When a doctor makes a diagnosis and chooses a treatment plan for their patient, they're relying on an enormous amount of training and experience and insight. They're trying to predict the methods that will give the best possible outcomes for the people in their care. But in addition to predicting the outcomes based on clinical experience and expertise, there are many other health related outcomes that can be predicted with different kinds of data. So for example, it is possible to predict at least some of the precursors of heart risks like heart attacks based on current heart rate data on a smart watch. Also, it's possible to predict outbreaks to some degree precision based on changes in things like the mosquito population, or if you run a medical testing lab, you'll be interested in predicting the demand for lab tests in the near and distant future to help with staffing questions.
