Curating Meaningful Connections Yesterday I had the incredible opportunity to attend a networking event hosted by James Gillespie for University of Michigan Alumni in Healthcare and Life Sciences. More than a networking event, James Gillespie thoughtfully curated meaningful conversations. This in-person event happened on a snowy day in Chicago, and yet we all came together, some from the suburbs, others from the city. In only 1 hour and 15 minutes, we learned about our synergies, passions and discovered ways to continue conversations. 3 Takeaways: 1. Start with a common interest or shared background. In this case there was both. 2. Be an active listener. Everyone in the room was fully present and engaged in learning about each other. 3. Make it easy for people to connect afterwards. I truly appreciate how easy it was to reach out to attendees after the event. Bonus: I met people who are from A2 and from Michigan and even had a walk down memory lane all the way back to ... middle school! Thank you James Gillespie for opening doors of opportunities for healthcare and life science leaders in Chicago to meet and engage. I am excited about your vision for the future. I am grateful for the opportunity to speak at this years National Adult Day Services Association (NADSA) conference in Chicago, Sept 27-29th. Over the years, I’ve noticed that there are two things that most adult day directors and owners don’t do. ✅ They don’t have clear Key Performace Indicators for their adult day center. They may know what KPI stands for but they’ve never written down which ones matter to their center. ✅ In other cases, they may know their KPI’s but they don’t track or measure them on a weekly basis. Adult day is currently one of the smallest industries in the senior care space. Therefore, most adult day centers are smaller mom and pop operations. As a result, there is not a lot of formal leadership training or education to support the “business” side of adult day. Most owners and operators have huge hearts, love taking care of others and making a difference in the world. However, they may lack certain business acumen which limits their growth. In this session, we will learn how to create KPI’s that matter and drive revenue. Once clearly defined, we’ll review ways to track and measure them in order to make better decisions over time! Congrats brother. Now let's get the team to seriously get talent that wants to work there. I am no longer looking for a position at Public Health Management Corporation. But, after years of applying submitting over 100 applications there since 2017, The #HR team finally sent me an offer 2 weeks ago to work as a Youth Ally Worker. I am not sure how I was sent this offer but it came in my inbox. This position requires a High School diploma. I possess three Masters including an Advanced Masters and doing my doctorate, and is an Author and Academic. I have never applied there with less than a Masters so, how is it possible to get such an offer of all the apps? Talent sourcing needs to be beefed up. And by the way, just because someone has Rev at the beginning of their name should not disqualify them from working there. I understand that if you have a title such as Rev. or have theological education, that may disqualify an applicant as was the case in several situations, the hiring manager stated that they were not looking for people who were "holier than thou" as PHMC may require individuals performing duties that the religious may not want to do. I am not sure what they meant. However, I have never heard of that before within professional industries. I suspect that Michael K Pearson will make a difference as a brother who is forward thinking, inclusive and has a reputation for professionalism and understanding. #humanresources
