📢 Great news for final-year medical residents! The latest AMN Healthcare Physician Solutions survey reveals a booming job market, with 56% of residents receiving 100+ job solicitations in 2023, a significant increase from 30% in 2021. “Employers want younger physicians because they feel they don’t have to worry about succession planning around them,” says Leah Grant, president of AMN Healthcare Physician Solutions. “Those doctors are able to come into a system and grow, so everyone wants them.” However, almost half of the residents feel unprepared for the business side of medicine. Despite this, hospital employment remains the top choice for most, while solo practice lags behind. Read more: https://brnw.ch/21wKTu0

Navigating the job market as a final-year resident or fellow can be overwhelming. Beyond location and compensation, you must dive deep to find the right fit. “There are lots of questions to answer: Is there a need for my specialty in the service area? Will I have the resources I need? What is the local payer mix?” says Leah Grant, MBA, President of AMN Healthcare Physician Solutions. “Physicians considering a career change are taking a step that will have profound consequences for themselves and their families,” Grant adds. Grant emphasizes the importance of thorough research and preparation: “Just as you would learn all you could about a patient's background and history before you prescribe a treatment, do an in-depth diagnosis where you learn all you can about the practice and the community.” Learn more about making informed career decisions with resources from American Medical Association and AMN Healthcare: https://bit.ly/3ye2zc6 #Healthcare #MedicalCareer #Residency #PhysicianJobs #CareerAdvice #AMA #AMNHealthcare

What does the following say to you? An editorial in Staffing Industry Analysts in March 2023 (see link to the article in this post’s first comment) stated that “59% of physicians with locum tenens experiences reported taking their first assignment within 10 years of completing medical training.” Let’s take a second look: more than half of physicians have moved to locum tenens work within just one decade of finishing their training! What does that say about how happy younger physicians are with their chosen profession? “Not very” is likely the answer. The editorial does say that the” largest segment of the current locum tenens workforce is mid- to late-career physicians over age 45.” Most physicians wait until mid-life to move into locum work. At least they are right now. What happens if physicians move to locum work at younger ages: what could happen to our healthcare system in the U.S.? Seriously; what do you think will happen? #LocumDoctors #LocumPhysicians #LocumTenens

Physician attrition has never been higher. A shortage is looming. My latest for Forbes. I specifically examine the paradox of oscillating compensation with the rising costs of medical education, in addition to the profession facing significant amounts of burnout and attrition. This is why nearly 1 in 4 physicians now routinely seek "side-gigs" and non-traditional careers to augment their professional journeys (pioneers like Nisha Mehta, MD and her work with PSG have redefined this arena). Notably, physicians are also increasingly entering management and leadership positions, which is a positive force for the future of the healthcare system. Some incredible stalwarts that are leading the way with this: Garth Graham, Karen DeSalvo, Amy Abernethy, Sachin H. Jain, MD, MBA, Cheryl Pegus, Sunita Mishra MD, MBA, Vin Gupta, MD MPA, Nworah Ayogu, Fatima Paruk, MD, MPH, Yele Aluko MD, MBA, FACC, FSCAI., Kaveh Safavi, Spencer Dorn, and many many more! Communication skills are highly valued by program directors for several reasons: 1. Patient Care: Effective communication is essential for providing high-quality patient care. Clear communication helps ensure that patients understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and care plans, leading to better health outcomes and patient satisfaction. 2. Teamwork and Collaboration: In a multidisciplinary healthcare environment, strong communication skills facilitate effective teamwork and collaboration among healthcare professionals. Residents must be able to communicate efficiently with nurses, attending physicians, specialists, and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate patient care effectively. 3. Patient Safety: Miscommunication can lead to medical errors and adverse events. Residents with good communication skills are better equipped to obtain accurate patient histories, convey critical information during handoffs, and clarify orders, reducing the risk of errors and improving patient safety. 4. Professionalism: Clear and respectful communication is a hallmark of professionalism in medicine. Program directors seek residents who can interact professionally with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals, demonstrating integrity, empathy, and cultural sensitivity. 5. Teaching and Learning: Effective communication is essential for teaching and learning in a residency program. Residents with strong communication skills are better able to convey medical knowledge to patients, educate colleagues, and engage in continuous learning through case discussions, journal clubs, and other educational activities. 6.Patient Satisfaction and Compliance: Patients are more likely to adhere to treatment plans and follow-up recommendations when they feel heard, understood, and respected by their healthcare providers. Residents who excel in communication can build trust with patients, leading to higher levels of patient satisfaction and compliance. Overall, program directors prioritize applicants with good communication skills because they recognize the significant impact these skills have on patient care, teamwork, patient safety, professionalism, teaching, and patient satisfaction. Effective communication is fundamental to success in residency training and beyond. #usmle #img #residency

CEO at NurseDeck: ⚡Empowering our Healthcare ecosystem through Workforce Solutions | Actively networking with decision makers in Healthcare, Biotech and Pharma
The demand for allied professionals continues. One significant contributor has been educational institutions turning to staffing agencies to address staffing gaps, particularly in fields like speech-language pathology and school psychology. This reliance underscores the crucial role these professionals play in supporting the educational needs of students. The increasing elderly population continues to be a driving force behind the sustained demand for healthcare services. Specialized roles such as cardiovascular technologists and clinical lab technicians are essential for diagnosing and treating age-related conditions, reflecting the vital role allied healthcare professionals play in catering to the unique needs of aging individuals. Despite this evident demand, there persists a notable disparity between the availability of allied healthcare professionals and the requirements of the healthcare sector. Workforce exhaustion and the seasonal nature of demand exacerbate this imbalance. The trajectory of the allied segment suggests a continued need for innovative workforce solutions to address the evolving dynamics within the healthcare landscape. As the aging population continues to grow and healthcare demands intensify, proactive measures will be essential to ensure the availability of skilled allied professionals to meet the needs of both educational institutions and healthcare facilities.
