Listening to the FemTech panels at MaRS Discovery District, and loving seeing this sector gain traction. These leaders drive innovation unapologetically toward women's needs, recognizing their intersectionality. Did you know 1 in 10 women suffer from endometriosis? It impacts fertility and is underreported. Common symptoms include pelvic pain, painful periods, infertility, pain during sex, anxiety, and depression. Shockingly, it can take up to 5 years for a proper diagnosis. This is just one of MANY issues women face. Organizations like Afynia Laboratories Laboratories, led by experts like Jocelyn Wessels, Ph.D., are accelerating change by addressing these gaps. Vaginismus, dyspareunia, and vulvodynia are female sexual pain conditions which can involve pain before, during, or after sex, or more generalised pain in the genital area. These conditions are often treated with medication or physiotherapy. However, women with these conditions may benefit from psychological treatment as well. This study will look at two groups of women: 1) women with vaginismus, dyspareunia, and/or vulvodynia, and 2) women without any of these sexual pain conditions. Very interesting research published few days ago, must read and think about this. #Biopsychosocial approach to #vocational #rehabilitation must take into consideration a range of person specific factors, especially when working with and through pain. We can just apply one size tick box. Biology doesn't care about arbitrary timeframes.
