There's a new browser called You which is reimagining the way that we use the search engine. It's pretty fascinating to see how they've thought through this new search experience. After 20 plus years of using the exact same search functionality in Google, I am pleasantly surprised by how much I like this new experience. There's so many things that you can do. That's the first thing that I noticed. For example you can generate new copy for emails you want to send to friends or through work. You can generate images that can be used for all sorts of things. Well this is very similar to what you can do with experimental search add-ons like Google's bard, I find this experience fundamentally different. Why? Because this is starting with AI search from the ground up. As opposed to adding it on later, like how Google is doing it. I'm not sure if a Search tool like You will ultimately take too much market share from Google, but I think it will be interesting to see it try.

#GoogleIO started this week and the headlines are right: It’s the End of Google Search As We Know It 1️⃣ Blue-links will be replaced (sort of): AI overviews will be taking over the first position for some queries in the US, starting this week. 2️⃣ Search will be (increasingly) multimodal: circle to Search and the new ways to search using video open new opportunities to drive value with YouTube 3️⃣ Publishers, advertisers and users will (understandably) have a lot of questions: like any big transition –such as desktop to mobile– it won't be perfect from day 1, but we'll get there over time. https://lnkd.in/dkDr3Ni9

We've seen this movie before. Ex-Google product manager Scott Jenson criticizes Google’s AI efforts as panic-driven. This is why I suggest, don't waste time on tools. So many of them will come and go. The ones you fall in love with will be bought and "sunsetted." Many will fail. Focus on how the emerging capabilities are going to change life and business, then look into what tools to integrate or create.

Google's AI summaries are full of wild inaccuracies. For example, they've told users that you can use gasoline to make spaghetti spicier and that dogs have played in the NBA. But the problems with AI Overviews aren't stopping Google from turning them into yet another revenue stream. The company will soon start testing ads in these suggestions in the US. "Google is much better placed than OpenAI to solve all of these challenges: Google sells its own phones which could be configured to have a conversation UI by default (or with Google’s Pixel Buds). This removes the friction of opening an app and setting a mode. Google also has a fleet of home devices already designed for voice interaction. Google has massive amounts of infrastructure all over the globe, with the lowest latency and fastest response.
