Skinny Espresso Martini Packaging Experiement Update: As an entrepreneur, clear data is one of the best gifts you can ask for. Anecdotal evidence is great, but nothing takes the place of clear and consice data. And when they both come together to tell the same story that’s a beautiful thing. We had set a goal for a 25% lift from the new packaging heading into this test. After the first 4 weeks of testing the new packaging in stores, we saw a 257% increase in sales from stores with the new packaging! We initially had planned to run this test for longer before making a decision, but this one felt like a layup. Data is rarely if ever this clear and we felt like we needed to move as quickly as possible to make this shift in packaging permanently going forward. In our own ersatz haderach (shortening, in a way), a news update is an opportunity to revisit and recycle a prior image! If you’re aware of our previous warnings of lead present in children’s snack pouches, that was due to adulterated cinnamon used in the manufacturing process—potentially intended for markets with less regulated testing. There is now an alert for ground cinnamon sold directly to consumers under the following brand names: La Fiesta, Marcum, MTCI (aka MK), SWAD, Supreme Tradition, and El Chilar. For Washington state residents these products may have been purchased at La Superior SuperMercados or Family Dollar/Dollar Tree. While these are drastically lower quantities of lead present, 2.04 to 3.4 parts per million (ppm), compared to the apple purée products that initially sparked the concerns ranging from around 2,000-5,000 ppm, the risks grow as quantities grow.
