Come here often? I don't, but hey, let's make a week out of it. With the 1st overall pick in the 2024 draft, Skio selects Olivia Boersen! Hot off a stellar run at Sprout Social, Inc., I had my doubts that I could close this deal. However, I think the opportunity was simply too good to pass up. Yesterday I made a point of outlining how Skio will continue to over invest in Engineering, and Support - but that doesn't mean we can't turn the Revenue engine into something world class, too. Lucky for us, we secured a new anchor. I think every manager dreams of having somebody like Liv on their team (Just creep that background, it's as good as it gets). Steve Jobs said something along the lines of "Hire people smarter than you, and let them tell you what to do". I thought that was pretty easy advice to follow. The bigger aspect of all of this is the general impact her arrival will have -- our company, customers/merchants, and partners are all better off with Liv in the picture, and we're certainly thrilled to snipe her back into the Ecommerce world. I know, I know, I must sound drunk off the corporate kool-aid, but I swear it's only because our customers keep feeding us shots 😅. The best part? This is just snipe # 1, of 2... but we'll leave that for another lovely day in the future. Brick x brick.

What inspires you to get up everyday and do the damn thing? I don't know about you, but I spent years doing mental gymnastics to stay excited about growing previous companies. Chasing top line revenue for the sake of posting a higher number than the previous month didn't give me the same rush it used to. Before starting Nimble Distro Marissa and I spent a significant amount of time asking ourself why we wanted to do this. Why, other than making a living, should we start a company? Hell...could we even earn a living by starting a cannabis company? We each tried to talk the other out of it. When we shifted our mindset towards scalable impact that mirrors scalable growth it all became clear. It became our why. Why were we building a scalable, efficient, successful company? To make an impact inside our building and in our community. Now, doing higher revenue numbers the next month = higher impact in our community. It gives purpose to the ugly parts of capitalistic structures. Here's a peek behind the curtain of Nimble Distro. In our short 2.5 years we've made big waves of impact while creating a sustainable business, and we're just getting started. I almost made a MASSIVE blunder yesterday. As a #founder, I’m almost always overloaded (trust me, I delegate up the wazoo 🤝) So when I got an invitation to attend Pivotal Ventures’ Founder Summit, I was… hesitant. The obvious, instinctive and gut reaction was - “say No”. Not because it wouldn’t be helpful, but “think of all the work I could finish!” On the other hand, I may learn by talking to other founders. So I took a bet. And went. . .. … I can’t tell you how glad I am that I did. And not just for the obvious - yes, as expected, talking to other founders was incredible. You get to swap both strategic and tactical notes. Your idea/strategy seems like magic to them; their idea/strategy seems like magic to you. But there was an even bigger benefit that I didn’t see coming at all - Emotional. I couldn’t put into words how HAPPY I was just meeting founders - because you commiserate. You understand each other’s challenges. You celebrate each other’s wins. You support each other’s falls. And you realize at the end of it all - You. Are. Not. Alone. What you do, matters. You, matter. It’s surprising how many of us have had the same experience, but think we’re the only one facing this feeling. I’d love to learn from you all. So if anyone’s got a similar story, do share. In the words of one of my favorites songs: here’s to my “partners in crime” 🙂 “It’s been a long day, without you my friend And I’ll tell you all about it, when I see you again.” #Lotus
