I was a buyer for a well known and highly respected retailer. I expected that I'd spend my entire career at that company... During a meeting with colleagues, it was mentioned that one of our vendors was looking for a new Account Manager. Outside sales? I wasn't sure that was me. The position just happened to be with my favorite brand, and probably the ONLY brand that would take me away from a job I really loved, a team that was awesome, and where I'd gotten promoted several times. But when I heard the news. I had butterflies in my stomach. I couldn't think of much else during a day full of meetings. I slipped away to make a call to express my interest. I drove three hours from Portland to Seattle for the interview. I got the job. It was the first of several career pivots and a career trajectory that I have no regrets about even with a few lay-offs and some toxic managers. I can quite literally say that I wouldn't be doing what I am now if I hadn't made the decision to go for it that day. Lessons :: >> Stay open to possibilities. >> When a door opens, go thru it. >> One decision can change everything. No matter what happens, the good is there when you look for it. In my opinion, some of the behind-the-scenes magicians in the #cannabis industry are the team members responsible for assortment planning. This team ensures our stores have the right assortment, in the right locations, at the right time to meet the needs of patients and customers. For many retailers, the "right inventory, right place, right time" equation is often the difference between maximizing sales and missing opportunities. In the cannabis industry, this role is still evolving, and many businesses are still figuring out the best ways to implement an assortment architecture, a localized product mix, and an appropriate inventory allocation strategy. One of my passions, and a key focus in my discussions with tech leaders throughout the industry, is refining the assortment planning process to better meet market demand and enhance customer experiences.
