National Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month! May marks the arrival of commemorating National Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month in the U.S. This annual celebration honors the importance of recognizing the diverse histories, traditions, and significant impacts from the AAPI community. Additionally important, this annual event serves as a platform to highlight the community’s integral role in shaping the fabric of American culture and progress. At SoFi, our employee resource group, SNAP (SoFi’s Network for Asian-American and Pacific Islanders), is highlighting the resilience, adaptability, and forward-thinking spirit of the AAPI community.  This theme assists in emphasizing the continuous process of learning, refining, and innovating that leads to progress and success. In a rapidly changing world, this theme of iteration underscores the importance of embracing change, seeking improvement, and adapting to new challenges, reflecting the dynamic spirit of the AAPI community in overcoming  various historical obstacles that have tried to discount the many significant contributions made by the community to our global society.

From facing discrimination to mistreatment, and a lack of respect for their cultural practices, indigenous communities around the world are true epitomes of resilience. They constantly fight tooth and nail for what should we, as a society, be doing. The big, looming challenge remains – to secure basic rights for these communities and ensure they are included in development processes, so they can live safer, healthier, and more prosperous lives. Recognising this imperative, our social impact arm, RYTHM Foundation organised a transformative event that echoed this sentiment. The recent 'Indigenous Communities in Malaysia: Reframing the National Sustainability Initiative’ Convention stood as a beacon of change, shining light on the path of inclusivity. Held in Malaysia, this event was organised in collaboration with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia - UKM, an institution known for its commitment to knowledge and progress. This convention spotlighted challenges faced by local indigenous communities such as the Orang Asli, and aimed to ensure their well-being. The collective effort spurred dynamic discussions, shared insights, and the adoption of 30+ resolutions. Distinguished groups like Yayasan Sime Darby (Sime Darby Foundation), Quest International University, and Universiti Teknologi MARA - Media Rasmi played an active role in the discussions. Throughout the two-day event, Datin Sri Umayal Eswaran, Chairperson of RYTHM Foundation, Dato Sri Vijay Eswaran, Executive Chairman of the QI Group, and Santhi Periasamy, Head of RYTHM Foundation, expressed their commitment to addressing the pressing concerns affecting Malaysia's indigenous communities through the Foundation. By fostering unity and dialogue, this effort not only rewrites their narrative but also embodies the RYTHM spirit – Raise Yourself To Help Mankind.
