On October 23rd, an event called "The New Global Sport Conformance" took place in Riyadh, where the Saudi Arabian Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, was present along with Al-Nassr FC star Cristiano Ronaldo, along with many other individuals. During the event, discussions were held regarding Saudi Arabia's vision to establish itself as a global gaming and esports hub in various aspects. In line with this vision, Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced that in 2024, Saudi Arabia will host the world's first-ever Esports World Cup, with collaboration from Cristiano Ronaldo himself. Specific details about the tournament have not been announced yet, but it is known that the prize pool will be the highest in esports history, and it will feature a wide variety of popular games from around the world. The question arises as to whether Bangladeshi esports teams will be able to participate in this tournament. Here are some key points to consider in an analysis of the Olympic Esports Games: 1. **Recognition and Inclusion**: Esports have gained recognition as a legitimate form of sport, with many countries forming national Esports federations and recognizing professional players as athletes. Inclusion in the Olympic Games could further solidify this recognition and provide a global platform for Esports athletes to showcase their skills. 2. **Challenges and Concerns**: There are challenges and concerns associated with including Esports in the Olympics, such as defining standardized rules and regulations across different games, ensuring fair competition, addressing potential issues of doping and cheating, and cultural differences in gaming preferences. 3. **Audience and Engagement**: Esports have a massive and diverse audience, primarily consisting of young people. Following one of the most historical moments for esports, my thoughts lay on the fundamentals. 📚 It's crucial to look at the basic principles of esports. There is no solid future without grassroots, without strategy and without knowledge. Whether it is the Olympics, the Winter Olympics, the Esports Olympics, whether in Saudi Arabia, France or in the US, whether played on a football field, in water or on a console... The "where" and "how" don't really matter. In the end, it will always be about athletes, about people. Particularly in esports, where time and stability are even harder to predict, we need to provide the players a safe ecosystem, the best conditions today but ultimately a tomorrow to rely on. On top of the latest announcements for esports, I would love to see more on the following topics: ➕ Look after the needs of each esport: ➕ Entry level competitions where players can develop their skills. We need more grassroots and less major events; ➕ Sharing knowledge to have better prepared employees; ➕ Safe conditions for players in areas like health, school and finance; ➕ Dedicated programs to bring more women into esports; ➕ Aligned strategies between IP owner's and tournament organizers; ➕ Better calendars and at least mid-term visibility for athletes, clubs and TO's; ➕ Successful cases for commercial partners; ➕ Connection between generations. Politics aside, the scale of the upcoming Esports World Cup 2024 hosted in Saudi Arabia and supervised by ESL, is absolutely huge. Here are some numbers to help you visualize how big of a deal this thing actually is. For comparison's sake, the biggest sporting event right now in the world is probably UEFA Euro 2024. With 24 nations competing at the highest level of football. If a national team won every possible match in the Euros, they will have made only €28.25 million euros ($30.17 million USD). This is insane to me esports, a form of competitive sport only invented around 50 years ago is already taking over football in terms of prize money. A sport that has been around for hundreds of years.
