This year I attended my first #websummit 🙌. It has been really intense - obviously with 70k+ attendees this was to be expected. Main take-aways so far: => Opportunities in Education and Gaming: Delving into the realms of #education and #gaming was a highlight. It exposed the gap between Europe and Asia in these domains, showcasing intriguing opportunities for growth & innovation. => Artificial Intelligence Buzz: Despite the prominence of #artificialintelligence, there's a pervasive buzzword confusion. Many seem unable to discern its various aspects, and surprisingly, ChatGPT isn't yet a staple in daily work for many. This was a surprise. => Call for More Regional Collaboration: I didn't realize that Websummit is a little bit like the world Expo (with a more corporate touch), but the dominance of countries like Germany and France, along with the European Union (mainly #eif ), highlighted a need for broader EU collaboration to collectively showcase the outstanding initiatives within the region. BTW, Brazil, with its standout pavilion, set an impressive example 💪. I missed seeing the Nordics (except for Maersk who had one of the most prominent stands). =>Enhanced Networking Opportunities: Navigating meaningful connections proved challenging amidst the vast crowd. A nuanced badge system beyond the generic "VIP/SPEAKER" distinction could significantly aid in streamlining connections and interactions. => The #womenintech lounge has been packed all day - making it more or less impossible to get a seat during the talks. Definitely a sign that next year the lounge area should be bigger 😉. Additionally, I hope we can elevate conversations beyond introductory topics, pushing for more nuanced discussions. => People are searching for meaningful connections. Every roundtable/ masterclass I tried to join had massive lines. I managed to join 1 because I arrived 50 minutes before (and I was not even the first in line). Definitely a need for more of those 💪 In conclusion, while there were aspects that could be improved, #WebSummit proved to be a wellspring of inspiration. I really enjoyed connecting with old as well as new interesting people 🙌

Meeting with #VintCerf at #IGF23 in #Kyoto whose #leadership at IGF is most constructive and providing #bestadvice for the #WSIS+20 Review Process organized by #ITU and #UNESCO together with #UNDP for 2025 #UNGeneralAssembly. Vint developed with Bob Kahn the TCT/IP Protocol and is now called “Father of the Internet” acknowledged the importance of selecting examples of best #innovation practices on Internet for #SocialImpact and of #WSA global work on the “impact layer” and providing #socialentrepreneurs global recognition and #NetworkCapital. I discussed with him the #technology #bias in his most welcome work of the UN level as the chair of the Leadership Panel of the #IGF arguing that it is critical to view the Internet as history’s most powerful means for global #Economy and #MarketConcentration. The fact is that 2023 five companies - #Meta, #Google, #Amazon, #Apple, #Microsoft) accumulated for the first time in history more than half of all the #AdvertisingRevenues – in fact precisely 54% - creating the structuring #DigitalDivide for all #applications. The #Internet must be understood and treated as a global #Monopolization force wiping out large segments of the legacy #mediaIndustries, especially #newspapers and amassing a global #MarketPower with #BigData scalping and challenging #states in their #sovereignty and democratic make-up. These companies act as the new #communication #intermediaries as #InternetPlatforms and eliminate the #editorial intermediaries on which informed publics and democratic process depended for the nearly two centuries. #WSA and its global community of #scoialentrepreneurs wish that the #IGF moves beyond a #legalissues and #lawandlegislation approach addressing the market power.
