China brings the biggest #solar farm in the world online at a massive 5GW which is enough to power a small country! ☀️ Covering 200,000 acres - around the size of New York City, this giant solar farm could power a country like Luxembourg China now holds the record for the top 3 largest solar farms in the world! Huge achievement - well done to all involved! 🤝 https://lnkd.in/etkdX7Wj

However, in light of recent geopolitical developments, both the US and Europe have been making significant efforts to 'onshore' production of critical components, such as battery cells and PV panels. This session will examine Brazilian industry policies and local production initiatives in the context of these global developments and explore how these activities could contribute to a competitive local supply of solar PV and energy storage components and systems. China is going viral with commissioning of 3.5 GW solar plant making it the largest solar Farm in the world. in 2023 only, China had built solar plants with capacity (217GW) more than the whole solar plants that USA built in its entire history (175GW). Today, China is undoubtedly the world solar super power.

Check out this latest publication by my colleague Ulrich Hansen. It shows that while foreign direct investments in the off-grid solar sector can provide affordable energy access in African countries such as Tanzania, they do not offer many opportunities for linkages between local and foreign companies and thus fail to spur local manufacturing. Perhaps this is because FDI without effort by local firms combined with supportive government industrial policies never leads to developing local manufacturing capabilities.

🌞💼 Navigating the Solar Panel Market Shake-Up Oversupply in the solar panel industry has driven a significant shift in the market dynamics this year. In 2023, prices of finished solar panels in China plummeted by 42%, making Chinese panels over 60% cheaper than U.S.-made equipment. Some module-only manufacturers take orders at negative margins to maintain their market share. 📊 According to the China Photovoltaic Industry Association, China's annual production capacity for finished solar modules reached a staggering 861 GW by the end of 2023. This is more than double the global module installations, which are 390 GW. 🌍 These developments are fueled by Chinese subsidies for clean energy products, including solar panels, flooding global markets. While this aggressive expansion threatens U.S. firms and workers, it also impacts the global economy, reshaping the competitive landscape of the renewable energy sector. 🔍 So far, 2024 is heading down the same path, and for industry professionals, staying informed and adapting to these changes is crucial to leveraging the opportunities and navigating the challenges in this rapidly evolving market. #SolarEnergy #RenewableEnergy #MarketTrends #GlobalEconomy #CleanEnergy #SolarPanels #Sustainability #China #US #IndustryInsights

Impossible to distinguish between satire and news any longer: The solar industry “warns” that (after important parts of Europe moved to solar and wind) the energy prices are so hight that there might not be much of a future for the industry in Europe: “Europe's bid to expand its green tech industry faces a host of challenges, including high energy costs and supply chain issues, solar industry representatives gathered in Madrid warned on Thursday.” "Europe isn't profitable" But they are producing in China (~500g CO2e), Vietnam (~400g CO2e) and Thailand (~500g CO2e). France by comparison has << 100g CO2e. https://lnkd.in/dkdpFz4s

🌞 PHOTOVOLTAIC ENERGY AT R.BOURGEOIS🌞 Focusing on environmentally-friendly practices? A growing concern at R.Bourgeois. 📈 To further demonstrate the R.Bourgeois Group's commitment to decarbonising our industries and its responsible involvement in preserving the environment, solar panels have been installed on the entire roof of our R.Bourgeois Zheijiang production site in Haining. A similar installation had already been made on the roof of our Swiss factory in Courgenay. The roof at R.Bourgeois Zheijiang in China covers an area of 20,000 m2 and is used to generate the electricity needed for the factory's operations. Unused KWh will be sold to the local Chinese electrical supplier. 💡🍃 #china #photovoltaic #energy
