CEE Sustainable Finance Summit’s Post

Thank you to everyone who attended the second day of the CEE Sustainable Finance Summit, focusing on sustainability in banking!   🎤 Our keynote speakers, Rashmi Ghai and Gyorgy Szege from MBH, kicked off the discussions by exploring how banks can drive progress in the green transition. Irene Heemskerk set the tone, offering a view of the European Central Bank's climate and nature strategies guiding actions over the next years to ensure that our planet and nature thrive.   🎤 In the first conversation with the audience on "The Road to Net Zero," moderated by Gergo Wieder from KPMG, featuring András Molnár from OTP Bank, Jason Channell from Citi Global Insights, and Ulrike Gehmacher from Erste Group we discussed how to fix data issues and rethink banking in CEE.   🎤 The second panel discussion came to life under the moderation of the wonderful Nadia Humphreys, featuring an amazing line-up of speakers: Sean Kidney from the Climate Bonds Initiative, Luca Bertalot from EMF-ECBC (European Mortgage Federation - European Covered Bond Council), András Bebes from the Hungarian Debt Management Agency, and Robert Spruijt from ING. The audience gained important insights into the latest trends in green debt instruments.   👏 A big thank you to Ali Erbilgiç from BA and Paul Hiebert from ECB for their inspiring TED-style presentations, and to Eva Neudertová from Česká spořitelna for presenting a hands-on case study on EU Taxonomy in real estate, a topic close to her heart.   🎤 A more technical discussion on GAR and its usefulness was expertly moderated by our esteemed colleague Julian Toth, with contributions from Gábor Gyura from UNEP FI UNEP FI, Matej Michlík from EY, and Eila Kreivi. We revisited GAR in relation to the supervision of climate risk in a panel led by ISFC's founder Linda Zeilina-Cross, featuring Reiner Martin, Adam Banai, PhD. MRICS from MNB, Pierre Monnin, and Agnieszka Smoleńska, PhD. They highlighted the importance of collaboration between economic actors, with Martin Krivanek from KPMG Czech Republic addressing the default risk in purchasing bonds.   🎤 Petra Ondrušová from Ceska Sporitelna and Radek Lastovicka held a very practical conversation on their experiences with CSRD reporting, effectively highlighting the use of Double Materiality Assessment.   🎤 Finally, the last panel discussion underscored the importance of decarbonising CEE economies to meet net-zero commitments. It was brilliantly moderated by Raphael Minder from the Financial Times, with engaging speakers Eva Bucova from ING and Roland Hofman from Urbanity.   🙌 Big thank you and appreciation to our amazing speakers and everyone who joined the conversation at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group or online!   👉 More about the Summit go: https://www.ceesummit.org #CEESummit2024 #ISFC #financeforimpact #Sustainability #SustainableFinance

Lots of very actual topics to digest. Linda Zeilina-Cross , you and your team at International Sustainable Finance Centre (ISFC) again brought in very seasoned professionals and stakeholders to engage in dialogue with the aim to find best fitting solutions. We are living domino effect at the moment in regulation/reporting/data disclosure and it is utmost important to stay on our toes and check in regularly whether we are in essence achieving what we wanted. At the same time stay flexible. I am looking forward to experience the massive move towards action & target setting. Only then we will be able to watch great level of engagement, commitment, new solutions deployed and new ways of doing things. Very exciting!
