🙅 No more team growth at awork. For now. Here’s why: This year, awork has grown from about 20 to a team of more than 40. This has been such an important step. So many specialist positions had to be filled (such as performance marketing, UX Design, SDR, etc.) to get the machine that is awork up and running at the speed we need it to. Some important functions just aren’t possible without them. So we’ve made a step change size wise. Now as a team we need to re-learn how to operate, get productive, settle in. We’re not a service business, we don’t grow revenue by growing the team. Instead, we grow by becoming exceptionally good at solving our specific challenges. By outsmarting everyone else. Of course, there are some client facing teams that do need to grow with the number of our users. But overall, I’m pretty sure that we can double our user base while keeping our headcount roughly the same (give or take). And I don’t mean that we work double shifts: Instead of dealing with constant basic training and onboarding of new hires, we can focus on becoming better on an expert level, honing our processes, and building a cultural nucleus. It will also help us to really double down on our ownership concept. Give the team time to find their footing and develop their individual areas of responsibility. This will, so I believe, set us up for the next step change in size further down the line. Maybe with a next funding round, maybe organically - our current team will be the template and the solid core for that next phase. So while hundreds of teams pick awork to better organise their teams and projects every month, we’re tasting our own medicine. And I do look forward to that - being able to focus on the organizational and individual learning that will bring. 🤓 That being said: There are still couple of positions open and those will be crucial in the next months.
