If I didn’t work in long term care I’d be nodding my head in agreement with Biden’s harsh assessment of nursing home operators ‘padding their pockets’ on the backs of the elderly, but it’s simply not the truth- we’re just an easy target. The skilled nursing community in WNY is small, and the political narrative against nursing homes is scathing, but NOT refelective of the company I work for or the colleagues I’ve come to know at other homes in both the private and non-profit sector. We are doing everything we can to recruit staff- tripping over ourselves, other nursing homes in our communities, and the hospital/outpatient sector in order to staff our buildings. Condemnations by the President justifying the need for minimum staffing mandates and fines feels like salt in the wound after a multi-year pandemic, a mass exodus of healthcare staff, and the PTSD/burnout all of our remaining staff in the field are experiencing.
In a guest column published Wednesday in USA TODAY, LeadingAge President and CEO Katie Smith Sloan called on President Biden to temper his tone so as not to destroy the trust her members have worked hard to build. “We get it. The public needs someone to condemn, someone to push back against. In the narrative the administration is selling, nursing homes have been uniformly cast in the role of villain,” Sloan wrote. “It’s an emotionally compelling tactic to address a complex situation. The trouble is, it’s not accurate.”

Executive Leadership | Market Analysis | Process & Quality Improvement | Lean Principles | Population Health | Sales | Business Development
Indiana has a ways to go in helping older adults find the most appropriate services based on needs and level of care. This data shows that the state has an abundance of assisted living availability, a shortage of direct care workers- CNAs and personal care attendants, too many individuals in nursing facilities with low care needs (meaning those individuals could be served in a lower level of care at less cost- ie: home), and low Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) enrollment. Those who know about PACE are aware that the model is not dependent on CNAs or personal care attendants alone to serve individuals at home. The interdisciplinary team model allows for individuals to be safely cared for in the community without the restrictions or red tape of typical insurance staffing restrictions or access regulations. As a state we need to better at directing individuals to the right level of care for their abilities and needs or we will continue to fail our seniors and go bankrupt in the process. #knowtheresources #liveathome #rightplacerighttime #allinclusive are #pace #indianahealth -pointed out stats in the comments

Social and community participation is important because it can: Help you feel included and connected to others. Give you opportunities to build relationships with friends. Grow your social networks and help you feel more included. Everybody needs a champion and good role models who are non-judgemental. Volunteering in the. community helps Improve citizens' knowledge and skills in problems. This journey, is teaching me to be respectful, use active listening and good communication skills. Greater community knowledge allows me to see multiple sides of the problem and opportunities especially when working with women and young people. #domesticfamilyandsexualharassment, #diversityequityandinclusion #youthrisk Thanks OACWA Inc for recognising those who are making an impact in the community👏

A truly interesting and effective approach to fixing our healthcare system.
Yesterday we had the privilege of returning to the Rotary Club of Chattanooga after our week long hibernation in the East #tennessee snow. No knock on our speaker but I think many of us where just happy to have someone else watching the kids for a couple hours. Low and behold we had a treat in store for us. Everyone knows David Worland who heads Gov. Bill Lee’s Office of Faith Based Initiatives but our speaker today was his son Craig Worland of Southeast Primary Care Partners who spoke at length about challenges facing the US #healthcare system. Craig is a United States Marine Corps Veteran having served overseas and is currently COO of the largest Primary Care company in the State of Georgia. His message was simply brilliant; your economic model should line up with being a good human being. That is truly a novel concept. The belief at Southeast Primary Care Partners is that their revenue should come from the longterm health of their patients and not from referral fees or billed services. If these primary care providers have skin in the game, it will improve life expectancy and lower the astronomical healthcare costs facing Americans which is close to double that of other first world countries. Healthcare costs are the leading cause of bankruptcies nationwide and an estimated 760-935 BILLION dollars are wasted each year. Finding the right Doctor in the Right System is hard for those of us who have had loved ones in need. If we can simplify Pan’s Labyrinth of Healthcare, we can make Tennessee a better place for everyone to live with a better quality of life. Y’all go be Tennesseans this week and see what your great state has to offer! Fast Approaching - Legal Essentials for Caring for your Aging Parents. A Chance to learn more and have the dialogues before you need them. Check your calendar Monday November 13th at 6:00 pm. The goal is to be prepared with not only documents but knowledge to be able to easily step in when you are needed. This year I have had many families that either had Trusts that needed updated and reviewed or did not have any documents at all. This caused more work at a quicker pace to allow the family to step in help their parent. If family dynamics are an issue, which is also happening more and more, this should be discussed and addressed in planning. The goal is to center on the parents in need and be able to quickly assess their options. Please tell others that might want to learn more and to see Maplewood Long Term Care in Twinsburg. It helps to have looked at options and have your questions answered before having to need to use them. Maplewood is respectful and engages their residents. I hope we will see you next Monday at 6 pm. #estateplanning #forwardthinking #proactiveapproach
