There is 230 sustainability labels and 100 green energy labels in the EU. Many of them, as practice shows and EU study backs, are „vague, misleading and unfounded”. Now, according to the EU proposal the Green Claims Directive which aims to end greenwashing pracitices, environemantal claims will have to be verified. So far so good, but….. within the proposal there is something new for the verification bodies, which will have new market to provide services. Here we go. Conformity assessment has never been limited. This is massive case for the TIC sector, there is no prior conformity assessment scheme based on EU Law that foresees time limit to such narrow window for the verification process. Therefore there is a threat that the verification itself will be corrupted. Nevertheless, it is worth to notice that the conformity assessment sometime takes a very long time and the idea to shorten somehow the time frame for those activities is tempting. Of course one has to have in mind that lot of conformity procedures are delayed due to lack of complete documentation, not to mention carrying out testing procedures. #TIC

Commission welcomes provisional agreement on modernising management of industrial emissions. Compared to the directive currently in force, the new law will cover additional sources of emissions and give more support to breakthrough technologies. The revised law will also tighten rules on granting derogations to further protect the environment and human health. The updated rules will also provide more opportunities to EU innovation frontrunners who will be able to test more environmentally performing emerging techniques thanks to more flexible permits. A new Innovation Centre for Industrial Transformation and Emissions (INCITE) will help industry identify pollution control solutions and transformative technologies. Finally, operators of industrial installations will need to develop Transformation Plans to achieve the EU's 2050 zero pollution, circular economy and decarbonisation goals, and will benefit from flexible permits to implement deeply transformative techniques. The updated law will also support circular economy investments by including resource use performance levels, as well as lower chemical pollution through requirements for a reduced use of toxic chemicals during industrial processes. ⚠ EU Commission to Delay Adoption of Sustainability Reporting Rules by 2 Years. ➡ The European Commission announced plans to delay key aspects of its Corporate Sustainable Reporting Directive (CSRD), including the adoption of requirements for companies to provide sector-specific sustainability disclosures and for sustainability reporting from companies outside of the EU.. ➡ The announcement was made as part of the Commission’s release of its 2024 Commission Work Programme, which sets out its list of actions it will take over the upcoming year. One of the 2024 programme’s priorities includes the reporting burden for companies associated with reporting requirements, with the Commission including the postponement of the deadline for the adoption of sector-specific European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) as one of the key actions listed. 💡 According to the Commission’s proposal, the postponement of each of these rules will fulfill objectives including “allowing companies to focus on the implementation of the first set of ESRS,” “ensure that EFRAG has time to develop sectoral ESRS that are efficient,” and “limit the reporting requirements to the minimum necessary.” 📌 The cumulation of reporting requirements over time can result in redundant, duplicating or obsolete obligations, inefficient frequency and timing, or inadequate methods of collection. Thus streamlining reporting obligations and reducing administrative burdens is therefore a priority. 📜 Follow for more such updates. #EU #Sustainability #ESGReporting #ESG #Sustainability #Climate #esgnews #trends #Europeancommission #ESRS #CSRD #EFRAG

Sustainability reporting -- companies considering how they add value to the economy, to their shareholders, to their clients, to their suppliers, to their employees -- transcends three little letters ESG. There has been decades of work on non-financial reporting (that phrase just isn't as memorable).
#ESG (environmental, social, and governance) or investing in sustainability has rapidly grown in popularity, but it is still mis-understood by investors, financial service providers, and the media. Check out this CalCPA article The ABCs of ESG where our Chief Sustainability Officer Sarah Adams and Glenn Freed, Ph.D., CPA , PFS shares the history of #sustainability reporting. https://lnkd.in/gVRtDgBq Thanks to Glenn and CalCPA!

The European Parliament and Council reached an agreement on proposed regulations for a new "Ecodesign" framework that aims to establish sustainability requirements for almost all products in the European Union (EU) and provide consumers with better information about the environmental sustainability of products. This agreement comes after the European Commission's initial proposal in March 2022 to enhance the sustainability profile of a broad range of products, making them more environmentally friendly, circular, durable, reliable, reusable, upgradable, reparable, recyclable, easier to maintain, and energy-efficient throughout their lifecycle. The agreement , when adopted, will replace the existing 2009 Ecodesign directive which had focused solely on energy-related products. https://lnkd.in/dA-CJENf #EU #SustainableEU #ProductSustainability #EURegulations #EcoFriendly #SustainabilityRequirements #ConsumerInformation

📣 EU to ban ‘climate neutral’ claims by 2026 The European Commission has made a pivotal move to curb misleading environmental claims by planning to ban terms like “climate neutral” or “eco” by 2026 unless companies can substantiate their accuracy. 🔍 Key Takeaways: 🌱 Claims & Evidence: Sweeping environmental claims will be prohibited unless backed by robust evidence. Labels like "#Green",“#Eco”, "#EnergyEfficient" or “#NaturePositive” will require tangible proof of environmental performance. 💨 🌲 Emission Offsetting: The new rules will put a halt to claims made on the premise of emissions #offsetting, a cornerstone for claims of products being carbon neutral or having a reduced environmental footprint. 🏷 Product Transparency: Businesses will be required to disclose the anticipated product lifetime, bolstering transparency for consumers. 🛩 Industries Affected: Sectors like aviation will undergo major shifts. Airlines will need to rework their booking platforms to eliminate offers of “climate-neutral” flights via #carbonoffsets. 📌 Context: This proposed law is one among three aimed at harmonizing products with the EU’s ambition to become climate-neutral, although the pace of accompanying legislation is perceived to be sluggish. 🗣 Voices from the Field: - “A ban on carbon neutral claims is a step in the right direction against greenwashing. Such claims are, in fact, scientifically ungrounded.” - Ursula Pachl, European consumer organization BEUC. - The European Commission's proactive stance is anticipated to reshape carbon offsetting schemes, some of which have faced scrutiny for their lack of credibility. What Does This Mean For Your Business? This regulatory move emphasizes the importance of transparency and integrity in environmental claims. Companies operating in the #EuropeaUnion are now challenged to re-evaluate and fortify their environmental assertions.
