😦 May this explicit admission of massive wasted water resources be long-remembered here and elsewhere. This time of year nearly every year (since the !1980s!), 🕚 our agencies are forced to release stored water out to the ocean, far more than is needed to keep the delta fresh, as a method of "flood control." A *far* better conservation method is to store more water, as well providing much improved flood control. Being near 52% of normal snow-pack (measured today), there are calls for residents to conserve water, FARMS TO DECREASE FOOD PRODUCTION, etc. **Yet the agencies are being forced to waste large amounts of water** because we don't have enough storage and they fear that incoming storms will destroy infrastructure, flooding cities. We can't even store winter water when we have only FIFTY-TWO PERCENT of the normal snow-pack!?!! TIME TO ADD *LARGE AMOUNTS OF* ABOVE GROUND STORAGE (as well as underground recharge). Food is water. Water is food. 🥘 We need a new documentary, "Water Ridiculosity." #floodcontrol#flood#floods#floodrisk#floodmitigation#floodprevention#drought#droughts#californiawater#waterstorage#californiaagriculture#farming#foodie#farmlife#politics#ridiculousLos Angeles TimesSFGATEABC30
In anticipation of this week’s storms and potential increased runoff into Lake Oroville, DWR increased water releases from the Oroville-Thermalito Complex today. Total Feather River releases are 6,000 cubic feet per second and provide flood control protection for downstream communities. Releases are coordinated closely with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other water operators. Releases from Oroville Dam’s main spillway are anticipated to begin Wednesday at 8 a.m. Read more at https://lnkd.in/gUi6faXS #LakeOroville #California #Spillway #Oroville #FeatherRiver #Dam #Water

Watertown to apply for military grant to upgrade water treatment WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - The City of Watertown, New York hopes the federal government will help fund its drinking water upgrade project. The city plans to apply for $17 million through the Defense Community Infrastructure Program. This unique implementation of our system is the first time an organization has elected to use ChlorTainer vessels for storage rather than for chemical processing. US Army Corps of Engineers reinforced post-Katrina New Orleans against a '100-year storm.' After Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, essential engineering changes were made to the city. Drafted in to reinforce the city’s defenses against natural disasters, US Army Corps of Engineers were tasked with constructing a two-mile long, 26-foot high flood wall, improved pumps and a much-improved canal network to prevent future flooding. Meant to prevent a “100-year storm” (an extreme weather event with a 1% probability of occurring in any given year), the US Army Corps of Engineers went above and beyond to protect the city against future floods by factoring in how flood levels may look in 30 years time. #kansasengineer #helpingclientsprosperandgrow #floodbarrier #USACE #NewOrleans #engineers #engineering

Ice storms, floods, forrest fires, landslides, basically anytime the Canadian Armed Forces is called upon to aid the civil power means there is a risk of injury to the body; that includes the head and brain. Just because you never deployed internationally or in a combat role does not mean you haven't experienced repeated sub-concussive events. Service in the military takes its toll, and we want to know exactly how it impacts the brain. You can help us by pledging your brain to Project Enlist Canada at https://lnkd.in/gCVTHNTQ Project Enlist Canada is proudly supported by CAMH, Le Sentier - The Trail, Anthem Sports & Entertainment Inc., and The Royal Canadian Legion #ItsNotJustCombat #concussion#concussionawereness#TBI#ProtectYourBrain#concussionrecovery#tbi#braininjury#postconcussionsyndrome#traumaticbraininjury#headinjury#braininjuryawareness#brainhealth#concussions#pcs#tbiawareness#tbisurvivor#mentalhealth#veteran#veterans

MOD So you built some homes for the troops Then you realise you forgot to insulate them properly Or Have heating in them which is inefficient Or creates mould like in other forms of housing Can’t afford heating so what do you do ? Give them a sleeping bag !!! I came across this article that was published in 2022 , I doubt if much has improved for these guys https://lnkd.in/eVjsnTbF You could just give them a far infrared heater , start with one room that won’t kill the budget .. Not sure what far infrared heating is: Check out https://lnkd.in/eW6xGFB #MOD #farinfraredheating#affordableheating

If you look beyond these DLA facilities you will also see that a massive amount of equipment is also deteriorating in 1940 style motor pools. The equipment isn’t consolidated so it is less obvious, but I contend this damage is as great or greater than what was found in this report. Infrastructure changes to include products like BAN AIR’s space optimization equipment, and modular portable buildings could reduce a significant portion of this loss and overtime save money even with initial infrastructure costs. As, I said once before, my non wealthy family invested in structures to save farming equipment, but almost all army ground systems are stored without cover in the elements.
