Writings on an ancient clay tablet have allowed experts to reconstruct a Bronze Age ship made of reeds and sail it on a maiden voyage off the coast of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The vessel, known as a Magan boat, spans 59 feet in length and was assembled by a team of 20 specialists using techniques that date back to 2100 BC, when the Persian Gulf became part of global maritime trade across the ancient world. Magan was once the name for a region that now encompasses the UAE and Oman. Magan boats were large and strong enough to enable the exchange of goods such as copper, textiles and semiprecious stones 4,000 years ago between societies living in Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley in what is now Iraq, Pakistan and India, respectively.

🔎 A review of #maritime transport trends published on “Sea News”* highlights an interesting trend in the industry: larger and larger cargo ships are being built around the world. 🔷 According to the review, large #ships starting from 15,000 TEU are expected to make up more than 65% of the expansion of the world's #marine transport fleets in the next two years. The 10 largest companies in the industry have ordered 440 new ships, most of which will be larger than the ships they are planned to replace. ⚓ Larger ships, that carry more #cargo, help optimize the import and export system, cut transport costs, and leave a smaller footprint on the environment (per container). 🔷 The Israeli Ministry of Transport and the Israel Ports Company have invested large resources in recent years in opening new ports in Ashdod and Haifa - capable of receiving huge ships. ⭐ This week, the mega container ship #MSC Nicola Mastro, docked at South Port in Ashdod. The ship, which can carry 24,000 containers on board, arrived on a direct voyage from King Abdullah Port in Saudi Arabia, through the Suez Canal. This is a new ship launched this year, 400 meters long (like 4 soccer fields) and 61.5 meters wide. * https://lnkd.in/gQmg4CmE

Did You Know? Ancient Egyptians were among the pioneers of maritime trade, utilizing the Nile River as a vital artery for transporting goods such as timber, ivory, and precious stones. They developed robust wooden cargo ships crafted from local acacia and imported cedar, which played a crucial role in Egypt's economic prosperity and cultural expansion. These ships were equipped with sails strategically positioned to harness the wind, enabling efficient navigation against the Nile's currents. The ancient Egyptians' maritime prowess extended beyond the Nile, as their cargo ships ventured into the Mediterranean Sea, facilitating trade with neighboring civilizations. These voyages were not merely commercial endeavors but also contributed to cultural exchange and diplomatic relations, solidifying Egypt's status as a dominant regional power during antiquity. At Ruswal Global, we continue to honor this legacy of maritime excellence. Since 2014, specializing in cargo and marine inspections, we ensure the safe and compliant transport of goods worldwide.
