Unveiling the Tale of Authentic Sustainability in Indian Fashion: A Jury Experience at NIFT Kannur Recently, as a faculty and jury member at NIFT Kannur, I delved into the world of Master's in Fashion Management (MFM) students, exploring their insights into the Indian fashion industry. Amidst the vibrant ideas and discussions, an intriguing pattern emerged: the challenge of distinguishing authentic sustainability from the prevalent issue of greenwashing among brands. 🛍️ Greenwashing in Indian Fashion: Through engaging discussions with MFM students, it became evident that several brands in the Indian fashion sphere resort to greenwashing. This practice, while attempting to project an eco-conscious image, often masks the absence of genuine sustainability efforts. ❌ The Tale of Deceptive Practices: Many brands deploy tactics that mislead consumers, using vague terms, incomplete transparency, and token sustainability gestures, contributing to the culture of greenwashing in the industry. 🌱 The Journey to Authentic Sustainability: As we chart the course toward genuine sustainability, the innovative proposals put forth by students at NIFT Kannur underscored the essence of authenticity and transparency. They advocated not only for certifications and transparent supply chains but also for the integration of craft and artisan-based communities into the fashion ecosystem. This inclusion aimed to honor traditional craftsmanship while fostering sustainable practices. 💡 Shaping the Future of Indian Fashion: This enriching jury experience heightened my appreciation for the pivotal role of education, awareness, and ethical practices in the fashion industry. It wasn't just about advocating for transparency; it was about weaving the threads of heritage, sustainability, and social responsibility. This revelation inspired me to lead the charge in advocating for authentic sustainability, urging brands to embrace real, impactful practices by collaborating with craft communities. This synergy could empower artisans, preserve cultural heritage, and infuse fashion with ethical depth. 🌟 Embrace Authenticity, Drive Change: As we navigate the dynamic landscape of Indian fashion, let's collectively foster a culture that transcends greenwashing. Let's celebrate authenticity, transparency, and a genuine commitment to sustainability, while honoring and collaborating with craft and artisan-based communities. Together, we can weave a fabric of responsible, conscientious fashion that respects traditions, champions sustainability, and shapes a brighter future for Indian fashion. #NIFTKannur #SustainableFashion #AuthenticityInFashion #FashionIndustryInsights #EthicalBrands #SustainabilityJourney

imogo AB, winners of ENCOURAGEMENT FOR ACTION 2023; Fashion Innovation Established in 2018 by Stockholm Fashion District, Encouragement for Action is an award aimed to promote sustainable development within the fashion industry. "On behalf of Imogo, I would like to thank you for this prestigious award. As a small player going out into a big world, attention and recognition like this is really valuable, thank you! We all know that things must change in our field; the fashion and the textile industry. This is not only to meet the harsh but completely fair demands of the future, but above all to ensure a living planet for those who come after us. None of us can do everything, but we can all do something to move us in the right direction, as every drop counts. Our focus is on major savings in water consumption, a strong reduction of harmful chemicals and low energy consumption, all in order to ultimately be able to present major and sustainable changes going forward. Again, thank you very much and congratulations to the other category winners! //Joacim Wellander, Founding Partner - imogo AB Winner Motivation: The use and purification of water during dyeing is one of the biggest and most central problems to solve in order to achieve a sustainable textile and fashion industry. The winner of Fashion Innovation offers techniques to efficiently reduce this problem on both large and small scales. Their flexible techniques make it possible to manufacture small volumes, which are more cost-effective and sustainable. Implementing this innovation benefits not only the environment, but also improves profitability and productivity through the significant reduction of waste-water volumes, greatly reduced energy and chemical consumption, increased production speed, and consistent and predictable quality. This company sets a good example for other innovators.
