Meet Grace, this client of mine started working with me before she graduated, so we had enough time to strategized on all the process from the moment she got admission into her program. We worked together on program major, internship offers and now we are on full time offer. Yes, they will file her papers too. I know someone told you to go to Canada cos paper filing is easier after studies and that the US is a no-go for papers and they told you some other unrealistic scary things about the US. Listen, that isn’t completely true. The situation you find yourself depends on what you studied, how you strategize from the get-go, what company is hiring you and the opportunities within the country you chose. Please don’t let anyone who hasn’t navigated the US job market, do not live here and have no understanding of the immigration system tell you those lies. Living in Canada doesn’t qualify them to talk to you about the US, the immigration process and job market. Yes, I am a Canadian and yes, I am in the USA. And yes, your education can be your compass to navigate the US and the world, get your papers and land amazing roles that will change your life. Let every decision you make be backed by research and informed decisions. Anyone need to win this year? Join our upcoming Career Revival Bootcamp! 📅 Date: July 13th and 14th, 2024 ⏰ Time: 9 a.m. CST / 3 p.m. WAT 💲 Cost: $200 🔗 Link: https://ow.ly/ajhU50S1RaG You too deserve to be getting multiple interviews and amazing offers. Yes, straight out of college to an amazing salary is a possibility. And you need to ask me to help when you get into that program and nor when you have already navigated without guidance and now need me to rectify all your mistakes. Why aren’t you doing your part and offering work experience opportunities? (if you already are, no need to read on!) Enough students are simply not being given the chance to experience the work environment before they leave education, and this can impact how they adapt when they do enter a job. This week we’ve had a student join us for work experience and they informed us that around 50% of their class didn’t get a placement due to not enough local businesses offering the same opportunity to them. We’d encourage you to consider offering work experience placements, as there are so many benefits including: 📖 Gaining an outside perspective on your company and fresh eyes often show you what sides of the business can be improved. 📖 Having extra resource available if you have a specific project. 📖 If a student enjoys their experience, once they finish their studies, they may return to start their career with you. 📖 Contributing to your local community. If you would like to offer work experience, get in touch with us as we can put you in touch with the local schools we partner with and maybe next year 100% of their class will be out on placement! #workexperience #sheffieldjobs #localcommunity

When I landed in Canada my first jobs had nothing to do with my field. You know what changed the game for me? I was in labour and customer service, learning the ropes from the ground up. What I gained: Humility and valuable skills like problem-solving and effective communication. The Challenge: These jobs weren't enough to break into the education field. So I took on 2 volunteer gigs to build relevant experience while juggling school and work. - Assisted my program coordinator with info sessions and interviews for new students. - Helped a coordinator from another program with career assessments and readiness activities. (Fun fact: Now I’m professor in this program) The Lesson Learned: I didn’t earn money, but I gained resume content and relevant stories that aced my interviews. The Result: These volunteer jobs helped me stand out to land my dream internship as a Career Advisor. Plus, I got strong recommendations from both coordinators. Survival jobs paid my bills, but volunteering landed me my dream job. Want to break into your industry? Start creating your own experience and follow for daily job search tips. Happy Friday <3 #orbit5 #internationalstudents #jobsearch #askdavid

The end of the summer is upon us and you may feel like things haven't changed in your job. If the summer holiday didn't provide enough of a reprieve from work... then I thought I would share some of the residential roles are at selection stage. These residential roles are with different organisations but none will require hi-rise qualification for the upcoming changes. It is a busy time for people like you looking for jobs, so if your curious call me this week so you have enough time to think about, talk to loved ones, wrestle with anxiety etc. More jobs to come over the short week. #buildingcontrol #buildingsafetyact #residential #newjob #newterm

What did you want to be when you were younger? Pop star? Archaeologist? Lawyer? We asked our interns what they wanted to be when they were little - and their career fears for leaving university. When you’re younger, and unaware of any socio-economic constraints, you dare yourself to dream big and dream creatively. But somewhere along the way, imposter syndrome sneaks in, particularly for those from low-opportunity backgrounds. When you’re aware of how much you’re battling the odds, you’ll settle for just having a job. But as our interns point out, even that doesn’t always seem feasible. Well, here at Zero Gravity, we want to make our members feel that they don’t have to settle for something just so you can pay the bills. If you’re fantastically talented - why should you settle for something that doesn’t feel like, well, you? Background should never be a barrier to opportunity - and especially not daring to dream big. Keep your eyes glued to our socials - something very big is coming very, very soon. (Although we can’t promise that it’ll make you a popstar 🕺) #jobopening #gethired #careermentor

Strategic lead for Lancashire County Council Internships Work (DfE), engaging employers of all sizes to improve the quality and quantity of SEND Employment initiatives in the county.
Really interesting webinar yesterday facilitated by NDTi - National Development Team for Inclusion about how self-employment can fit with Supported Internships outcomes. My favourite case study, by far, was that of Robin Meader. Watch the video below of his incredible career journey, and the highs and lows he encountered. Just brilliant. ⭐ Thanks to Keith from Mutually Inclusive Partnerships for delivering a thought-provoking session. 💡 'I worked really hard in this bakery, why was he shouting at me? I worked there for 4 or 5 years. I didn't get any pay out of it at all. All I got was a loaf of bread or some little cakes. So many people don't see people like us as people. They just don't really think that a person with a learning disability is a worker. I really feel that people like us should be paid in money.' 👏 #InternshipsWork #Supportedemployment #supportedinternships #choicesmatter
