DOGFOODING
I’m sorry. I know it’s an awful word. 🤢
But since I have literally cooked and eaten my own dogfood, I’m going to use it in the figurative today.
On Sunday I decided to share the exact process I use to help B2Bs differentiate.
I’m going through my own repositioning.
Step 1: I analysed my competitors and chose a category
Step 2: I shared my version of April Dunford’s next step in a messy WIP spreadsheet.
Step 3: Testing my “category” hypothesis.
Step 4: I AM GOING BACK TO STEP ONE!
Why?
Because “positioning” isn’t as clearly understood as I had thought.
I need to make sure the category I put myself in is one my ideal customers recognise.
This is not a failure.
This is part of the process.
But it is a reminder that even the best frameworks are rarely linear.

That's right, our new facility was inspected last week by the FDA/CtDoAg and we are proud to report we passed with a perfect score!
There are no words to express our gratitude to the PCPF team -- from Leah, our operations manager who loves to create systems; to Brooke, our production manager who translates those systems into daily production and delivery/shipping details; to our kitchen team of Kira (our head cook and a Johnson and Wales professionally trained culinary graduate), Pam, and Julian who prepare food and treats by hand with dedication and precision; to Sebby who literally cleans up our messes; to our retail and farmers' market crew of Kira, Shannon, Grace, Julian and Teymour who sell, educate, and answer all our customers' questions -- we could not be prouder.
Thank you also to the inspectors for recognizing that PCPF is a role model -- that we have chosen to go beyond state and federal government requirements to set a standard for fresh pet food makers everywhere by refusing to distinguish between making food for humans and that for companion animals.
We know that, along with veterinarians and other like-minded professionals, we will continue to pave the way for higher standards in the pet food industry and enhance the lives of companion animals.

Exciting developments are unfolding in the pet food industry!
The UK has become the first country to authorise the sale of lab-grown meat for pet food.
This landmark decision has been awarded to Meatly, a British company dedicated to cultivating chicken cells specifically for pet food. As lab-grown meat promises to significantly reduce environmental impact and enhanced animal welfare compared to traditional practices, this move could potentially impact the wider meat industry in due course.
In just two years, Meatly has secured full regulatory authorization with £3.5 million in funding, becoming the fourth company to achieve this milestone. In contrast, other lab-grown meat manufacturer pioneers like UPSIDE Foods, GOOD Meat and Vow have taken 5 to 8 years and larger investments to reach a similar stage.
According to a survey from Statista the global pet food market is projected to grow by 5% this year, reaching $151 billion.
At such an exciting juncture for the industry, we can't wait to see what the future holds and how this affects consumer preferences.
