AWS Elemental MediaLive now supports color space conversion with custom tone mapping!!!!
A couple of nice features from the AWS Elemental MediaLive team this week. Colour space conversion using your own 3D look up table (LUT), giving customers greater control when mapping between HDR > HDR and HDR > SDR colour spaces. Customers can now apply different image overlays to each output, allowing for individual branding. https://lnkd.in/gwZWFzSA https://lnkd.in/guD_8jyG

The CPU accounts for a significant portion of the power consumed, and to extend battery life, CPU power consumption must be reduced. This can be achieved by placing the CPU in a sleep state when idle or by reducing its processing load. https://hubs.li/Q020NkjK0

Honestly, I'm not really sold on these LED walls yet. Sure, they're great for LIVE television stages. However, the expense and complexity seems to be a drawback at this point. This technology lends itself well to only certain types of projects. It takes a large overhead to house, maintain and operate these systems. In many cases it is more cost effective to just go out to a location and shoot. Perhaps in time LED walls will be more viable. For now, it's just a very expensive option for high end production. https://lnkd.in/grvY6KdW

Absolutely thrilled to announce a featured speaker for the upcoming "Building Your Own Live Streaming Cloud" online symposium! 🚀 Meet Ilya Mikhaelis, Streaming Backend Tech Lead at Mayflower, a powerhouse in the world of transcoding technology. Ilya is all set to take us on a thrilling journey in his talk titled "From CPU to GPU to ASIC: Our Transcoding Journey." 🎙️ Ever wondered how to support high-volume live transcoding operations with efficiency? Curious about the technical leaps from CPU to GPU and ultimately ASIC? Well, buckle up, because Ilya has the answers! Starting with libx264 software transcoding, he faced the challenges of massive power consumption with low stream density per server. But he didn't stop there. Experimenting with GPUs and transitioning to an ASIC-based solution, Ilya achieved something remarkable - a substantial decrease in power consumption with a dramatic increase in stream density. 💡 This talk will not only provide detailed insights into the costs, power consumption, and density of all the options but also offer an invaluable evaluation framework. It's not just a presentation; it's a front-row seat to real-world tech evolution. Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to engage with a leader in the field and level up your understanding of live streaming technology! Mark your calendars; more details coming soon. 🔗 REGISTER HERE: https://netint.biz/3KyvcmW #StreamingTechnology #TranscodingJourney #TechSymposium

Video engineers and streaming architects know that silicon's role via ASICs in their video encoding and transcoding workflows is expanding quickly. In this case study, you will learn how one live streaming low latency platform cut OPEX/CAPEX from $10 million to under $1.5 million while reducing power consumption by more than 90%. Ilya Mikhaelis is Mayflower's streaming backend tech lead. Mayflower builds and hosts streaming infrastructures for multiple publishers requiring live low latency video stream delivery with high quality but the lowest operational cost. This deep-dive provides data, and real costs along with the trials, challenges, and successes getting to such a remarkable reduction in cost and power consumption. Mayflower’s infrastructure handles over 10,000 incoming streams and more than one million outgoing sessions at a latency of just one to two seconds from camera to screen. Ilya’s challenge was to find the most cost-effective technology to transcode the incoming streams and retain E2E latency <2 seconds with high visual quality. His journey took him from CPU-based transcoding to GPU and two generations of NETINT Technologies Inc. VPU ASIC-based transcoding. In addition to slashing video transcoding costs from $10 million to just under $1.5 million, ASICs cut Mayflower's power consumption by over 90%, from 325,000 to 33,820 watts. I bet my professional craft and personal happiness on products that do not harm people and promote sustainability and growth. Open standards and open source are always at the heart of my interest because they last longer than short-lived marketing products. I build open 3D Space in Web (https://yolo.cx/about) using WebGL, WebXR, and W3C not because I blindly support collectivism, but because when people change titles, jobs, and pass away, these documents remain blueprints for the next generations. #webxr #webgl #w3c #metaverse

As many of you know, I regularly write for the Irish Times newspaper, on various aspects of innovation and technology news. Sometimes these pieces are behind their paywall. However just FYI I also maintain an open access archive of all my pieces over the years, at my blog at https://lnkd.in/evYgZRw2. My next piece, on Thursday 22nd, will be on Meta's recent earnings release, their dividend, Apple's Vision Pro vs Quest 3, etc ........

Is this ARR madness? Logitec proposes mouse as a service. As one Reddit user joked - if you exceed the mouse clicks, you go to premium plan. Yes we know from Economics 101 that rent is the most profitable concept. But a society of renters (and here we try to build one when everything is rented) is a society of poor people. Soon your electric toothbrush will stop working when you forget to pay the monthly fee. May be your fridge too. And you many not be able to go into your house if you haven't updated or paid the monthly fee for your smart lock. I am going back to metal keys. https://lnkd.in/e5zay5J2
Tech CEO says people will enjoy paying a monthly fee to use a mouse. ‘You’re going to really love that.’
