Rising costs of healthcare is inevitable nowadays but does higher healthcare spending really equates to better healthcare? This paper gives a good insight into how resources can be better allocated to ensure cost-effective health spending and how approach to healthcare policies should shift beyond focusing just on delivering quality medical care e.g. having most advanced technologies/up-to-date clinical practices in tertiary institutions but also towards improving community care, preventive health, reducing administrative burdens to achieve better health equity; translating into overall better population health outcomes and hence less wasteful spending.

It is critical to strengthen health systems not only to respond to current health threats, but also to build resilience to future challenges and to promote overall population health.
Health systems are critical in addressing global public health challenges. The effectiveness and efficiency of health-care systems have a significant impact on the well-being of people all over the world. Inadequate access to health-care systems is a public-health concern, with at least half of the world's population lacking access to basic health-care services. Healthcare system challenges differ by country. To effectively and holistically address health issues, primary healthcare systems must be strengthened. Many countries have disparities in healthcare access and outcomes, with marginalised populations frequently facing barriers to essential services. Global disparities in healthcare infrastructure, resources, and access to medical technologies exist as well. In comparison to high-income countries, low- and middle-income countries may struggle to provide adequate healthcare. This has an impact on the availability and quality of services. High out-of-pocket costs and a lack of financial protection can discourage people from seeking necessary healthcare services, resulting in delayed or inadequate care. Also, there is a worldwide shortage and misallocation of healthcare workers, with some regions having an insufficient number of skilled professionals. This can impede healthcare delivery, particularly in remote or underserved areas. Inequitable adoption of health information technology and digital health solutions can have an impact on healthcare delivery and data management efficiency. Global public health depends on ensuring preparedness for emerging infectious diseases and strengthening health systems to respond effectively to outbreaks. Addressing these challenges will necessitate collaborative efforts at the local, national, and international levels. It is critical to strengthen health systems not only to respond to current health threats, but also to build resilience to future challenges and to promote overall population health. Managed health care organizations, medical facilities, hospitals, etc. use profit statistics (e.g. "billable hours" ) as among the top variables in assessing their strength as a company and in assessing their caregivers' value as an employee. Instead, assessments based on patients' reports of their experiences as well as objective measures of patients' health outcomes are the variables that should be emphasized. The motivations associated with a health care system's goals of providing excellent care should have nothing to do with discharging patients "AS SOON AS POSSIBLE" and everything to do with providing the best possible care for patients augmented by provision of appropriate ancillary health care and relates services (e.g. housing placements, Social Work resources, medical insurance applications, etc., etc. And, for that kind of holistic approach to health care to gain prevalence, the "for profit" model has to be discarded. No, I don't see that possibly taking hold in the foreseeable future. There are too many fat cats making too much money for that to happen. But as long as our approach to health care remains as it is, our rankings in the health care landscape will continue to be disappointing.
