This week, DAWSON leadership from across the country came together to support the San Antonio Food Bank, an organization fighting hunger and feeding hope across southwest Texas. The team of volunteers sorted and packed food to be handed out at a mass distribution event this week. As a team, more than 41,770 pounds of food were packed into 880 bags to provide more than 33,000 meals to needy families. Mahalo to the San Antonio Food Bank for all they do to support the Texas community! #SAFoodBank #SanAntonio #Texas #FoodSecurity #FightHunger

Food Insecurity Across the United States Think about donating money to help with Food Insecurity. Food insecurity affects every community in the U.S. Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study is a powerful tool to understand local impact and take action. We can leverage this data to address factors impacting food insecurity and unite to ensure everyone has access to the food and resources we all need to thrive. Some key findings from our most recent study include: Food insecurity impacts communities in every county, parish, and congressional district in the U.S. Child food insecurity rates can reach almost 50% in some counties. Eight out of 10 high food insecurity counties are in the South, indicating regional disparities. Rural counties disproportionately experience high levels of food insecurity compared to urban areas. 🥬 Fresh, healthy food is a basic human right! 🥬 Yet it's becoming a luxury. The Boston Globe recently reported that grocery prices have gone up 25% since 2019. In that time, food insecurity in Massachusetts has also doubled. More families than ever are turning to food assistance programs for help. When they do, we believe they should find nutritious, high-quality options that nourish them, spark joy, and reflect their tastes. That's why Gaining Ground farms sustainably for hunger relief, and donates *everything we harvest* to regional food pantries, soup kitchens, day shelters, schools, and more. Will you support our work with a tax-deductible contribution today? Your financial contribution will yield fresh, organic produce this year for 2,100 households experiencing food insecurity in #Boston, #Lowell, and the #MetroWest. https://lnkd.in/e5vKvS7P Thank you!

🎉 National Day of Giving - A Time to Share and Care! 🎁 As we find ourselves in the heart of the holiday season, let's not forget that it's also the National Day of Giving! Today, we are invited to step away from the commercialization of the holiday season and focus on the true spirit of giving. In line with this, we'd love to highlight the work of Columbia County Food Bank https://cpfoodbank.org/. They supply food resources and nutritional education to needy families. Their mission aligns perfectly with the purpose of today. The Columbia County Food Bank always needs contributions, whether in the form of food, funds, or time. You can make a difference during this Season of Giving in several ways: Donate online: You can make a monetary donation directly on their website. Every dollar significantly affects and can supply multiple meals to needy individuals. Volunteer your time: Volunteers are the backbone of the food bank. You can sign up on their website to help in various capacities. Host a food drive: Organize a food drive in your neighborhood, workplace, or social gathering. This is an excellent way to collect non-perishable food items for the food bank. Let's use this day as a reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can make a significant difference in someone's life. Let's give generously, spread love, and bring hope to those who most need it. 🙏 "We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give." - Winston Churchill 🙏 Remember, the Season of Giving is about more than just material gifts. It's about compassion, kindness, and improving the world. For most, it's the berry season. For musician me, it's pie season. This summer marks the eighth year of my Pie & Persistence house concert series, which has raised over $85k for more than 30 non-profits from Seattle to Ukraine. And yes, there was a lot of pie. You can learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gF8Eyfuy In the semi post-Covid world, these typically happen during the summer. I'm a little stunned by how they've evolved from the early days of tip jars and collecting checks/cash for different organizations. This year, hosts have worked with individual organizations to create digital donation pages, which I think is pretty cool. Although this Friday's P + P for the Ballard Food Bank hosted by Jennifer Lamson and Ric Ilgenfritz is sold out, you can still support access to nutritious foods and services for 10,000+ households a month, keeping in mind that food is just the first step in their work of addressing the underlying issues their clients face. We can't address systemic challenges around hunger and food scarcity without building a strong network of community resources and services that are innovative, equitable and just. Access to healthy food is a right, not a privilege. Learn more and donate here: https://shorturl.at/6OMIP #pieforthepeople

Hunger is not just a problem here in San Diego. It's nationwide. Feeding San Diego is a partner food bank of Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger relief organization. Every year, Feeding America releases the latest findings from its annual Map the Meal Gap study. The findings released today emphasize the urgent call for all of us to take action. According to the new data from 2022, the number of people experiencing food insecurity has gone up in San Diego County. There are more than 350,000 people, including just over 100,000 children, experiencing food insecurity throughout the county. When we say people experiencing food insecurity, that means that at times during the year, a given household was unable to acquire an adequate amount of food for one or more of its members because they didn't have enough money or resources. The burden of food insecurity will impact generations to come right here in our county unless we continue to do the work to give a voice to those in need of the most basic human right: nutritious food. In Michigan, nearly 12% of people face food insecurity, and many of our community members face barriers to accessing nutritious food. Food insecurity has soared over the past few years, making it more important than ever to create a future where our food system is equitable, sustainable, and equipped to meet southeast Michigan’s needs. At our foundation, we support a number of nonprofit organizations, including Fair Food Network, Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan, Forgotten Harvest, Capuchin Soup Kitchen, and Make Food Not Waste, who are working to increase food access, destigmatized food insecurity, and provide education and resources so that people throughout our region can thrive. As King Charles approaches his 75th birthday, he's steering the spotlight away from the usual royal festivities. Instead, he's unveiling the Coronation Food Project, an initiative that seeks to significantly upscale the redistribution of surplus food in the UK. The aim? To boost the current 125 million meals, championed by FareShare, to an ambitious 200 million meals annually. What's intriguing is that King Charles isn’t just formulating plans; he's actively engaging with industry leaders from giants like Tesco and Ocado to drive change. The bigger picture? Tackling the mounting food wastage issue that the UK grapples with. Recent data from BRC highlights retailers' charitable streak, with an impressive £540m raised last year for worthy causes. #UKFoodRedistribution #KingCharles #FareShare #CommunitySupport https://lnkd.in/dV5gvj3V

Appreciate Crystal Edmonson and Atlanta Business Chronicle spotlighting the extraordinary level of demand for food assistance that we're seeing right now across metro Atlanta and North Georgia. In June, 250,000 households visited food pantries affiliated with the Atlanta Community Food Bank. That's about 12% of our total population that went to a pantry to get food in the month of June. We're moving more food than we ever have - more than 500,000 lbs of food a day - and it's not enough. Driven by inflation, housing costs and healthcare costs, the economic pressure on low- and moderate-income families is intense, urgent and unsustainable. The Food Bank of course needs community support to continue responding aggressively. But we also need policy solutions that get more resources to these families and alleviate some of that pressure: * We need Congress to pass a Farm Bill that supports farmers and increases resources for families and food banks * We need Congress to pass the expanded Child Tax Credit, which would support more than 600,000 kids in Georgia * We need Georgia to opt into the Summer EBT program to provide additional resources to kids on free/reduced lunch while they're out of school * We need lawmakers at all levels to listen to constituents and realize how many of our neighbors are struggling right now ... and then make expanding resources for these families a top priority. In the meantime, we'll be working hard with all of you to get our neighbors the food they need. https://lnkd.in/gpYG7HgH https://lnkd.in/gZGGZDW2
