Ever found yourself browsing through delivery applications to find the right place to order from? So many choices of food and places to order from! After spending hours on end, you finally have what you usually order. This behavior can be explained through Hick’s law which states, "The more choices you give a user, the longer it takes for them to make a decision.” Longer decision-making means more time consumed and more overwhelmed the user feels leading to increased bounce rates. It doesn’t mean having choices is bad; when utilized right, they help engage users. However, just like all good things in life, a healthy balance of choices works wonders. #HicksLaw #Choices #DesignWisdom

Writer for Weirdos 😈👽🤖🔮 Copywriter, Content Marketing, and Brand Voice Specialist ✍️ Strategic copywriting for people who live and work outside the lines.
Don't complicate a cheese sandwich. It's something I've said before, and I will continue to say it, because it's something that our app-obsessed, contract-laden, bureaucratic nightmare of a capitalist hellscape wants us to forget. When you want a cheese sandwich, don't complicate things with garlic-infused butter, bacon, onions, and whatever the hell else. Just enjoy the cheese sandwich! Does your contract REALLY have to be that complicated? Do you really need to pay for ANOTHER app? Does your process have to be so precise that you can't seem to communicate it through words or writing? I prefer to work in a much more relaxed, conversational way with my clients. I am no longer paying for a separate app to collect client surveys. If I want your feedback, I'm just going to ask for it. I work step by step so clients can work with me a little or a lot according to how well we work together. And you won't get a contract from me. You read that right. I outline things clearly in our communications so that there is no confusion about the process upfront, and then I use those emails as our agreement. That's it. And you know what? I can honestly say that I've never had trouble collecting payments or working with my clients using this system. They appreciate the simplicity of my process and have always stepped up to the PLATE (see what I did there? Because cheese sandwiches come on plates? 🙃) and uphold their end of the bargain. #keepthingssimple #keepitsimplestupid #dontcomplicateacheesesandwich #workingwithclients #workprocess

Professor at Cambridge. Author of “THE PROFITEERS: How Business Privatizes Profit and Socializes Cost”; "MAO AND MARKETS” (a FT Best Book of 2022); "BETTER BUSINESS: How the B Corp Movement is Remaking Capitalism"
John Oliver’s #LastWeekTonight on HBO Max is really spot on in his identification of systemic problems in today’s economy and society. And his analyses very much resonate with my new book #TheProfiteers. This past Sunday, he focused on #deliveryapps. While celebrated by some in giving workers flexibility, and how they provided a lifeline for restaurants in the pandemic, they have actually created a lot of destruction through predatory practices. First he discusses how they impose difficult working conditions on delivery drivers. Drivers face issues such as low pay, lack of benefits, and unpredictable work schedules. Additionally, they often have to cover their own expenses, like vehicle maintenance and fuel, which further reduces their actual earnings. This situation exemplifies the broader issues I discuss in The Profiteers how businesses commonly shift costs and risks onto workers, affecting their financial stability and well-being. Another issue is the exorbitant fees they charge restaurants, typically advertised as 15% to 30%, but that number can get even higher from additional fees for everything from boosting their placement in the app to making them part of special promotions. In some cases, the restaurants lose as much as 58% of their earnings to these platforms. While consumers can benefit in the short term as the VC industry has massively overfunded these companies so they can offer low prices to grab market share, eventually there is consolidation and monopoly. Uber Eats bought Postmates; DoorDash bought Caviar; and Grubhub merged with Seamless. In fact, GrubHub and DoorDash alone comprise more than 20 companies that once competed with one another. Then when monopoly is achieved, they can jack up prices. Like Uber rates, which were low for awhile, but after they decimated local taxi companies, are now much higher when consumers have fewer choices. These companies have vigorously defended their predatory practices, for instance #California passed a law in 2019 expanding work protections to gig workers. But some of the big delivery apps, along with ride-share companies, pushed a ballot proposition called Prop 22 that would carve themselves out of that law. The latest data shows that Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Postmates by Uber, and Instacart and more spent more than $184 million combined campaigning for Prop 22. Finally, when he got to the end of the program, the last bit was a send up of Fox Business Network host Stuart Varney and his scores of times praising Margaret Thatcher. This was hilarious and the irony is that I open #TheProfiteers with a story of Varney’s sycophantic interview of #JackWelch, so another point of consistency between this program and my new book. Anyways, do recommend taking a look at this program (and also my book when it is released on May 14! Link in comments.)

Saving time makes us dance, too! With Raydiant, what normally can take hours takes a few miniutes. Let's say you want to send out an announcement for the Seasonal Mushroom Burger. It's your newbie's first opening shift. Instead of giving them verbal or printed instructions, you have them install Raydiant so they can access step-by-step instructions that are checked off as they're completed. You have visibility into the completion status of important tasks and can feel rest-assured that your staff is up-to-date on menu items, their upcoming shifts, and much more.
