You might have come across when a query is underperforming and you want to validate if adding a specific new index will improve the performance or not. However adding a new index requires resources, CPU, storage and can take time to be created if the table is large. Postgres has an extension HypoPG using which you can create virtual indexes without using any resource; this index does not exist. It is useful to know if a specific index would improve the performance of your query. Check this to know more about HypoPG: https://lnkd.in/efXjPewN Check this to know more about all Postgres extensions : https://pgxn.org/ #databases #postgres

Attention CIOs and IT Directors: Are you running MongoDB on x86? Is scalability an issue? Consider LinuxONE for data center consolidation, better performance and scalability! Direct message me for more information today. •Better Performance: Get 1.8x more throughput per core on an IBM LinuxONE Emperor 4 LPAR versus a compared x86 platform. •Better Scalability: LinuxONE, with its scale-up architecture and the ability to allocate resources, allows you to scale up a single MongoDB instance to 17 TB in a single system without sharding. • •MongoDB Consolidation: Run 1344 concurrent databases executing a total of 377 billion transactions per day on a single IBM LinuxONE Emperor III server. #mongodb #linuxONE #security #scalability

Postgres as a Vector Database: Part 3, Going Distributed A single embedding generated by OpenAI needs approximately 6KB of memory/disk space. If you store 10 million embeddings, then get ready to allocate 57 GB of storage. If your table stores 1 billion records, then we’re talking about 5 TB for embeddings alone. How can you scale Postgres when storage, memory, and CPUs become scarce resources? Should we migrate to a pure distributed vector database? No! Even though Postgres is designed for single-server deployments, its rich ecosystem offers solutions for making Postgres truly distributed: https://lnkd.in/gycjSk5x

Are you debugging a Neutron ML2/OVN deployment? Dump the databases (Neutron and OVN) and build three easy to deploy containers running them locally in your laptop. You'll be able to use mysql, ovn-nbctl and ovn-sbctl, and find any discrepancy between the Neutron and the OVN databases. Once finished you can just delete the containers leaving no leftovers. https://lnkd.in/dSqrXSZq
