The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 came into force on August 11. Somewhat complex act - with room for improvement in its structuring, but a welcome act nonetheless. Carries demanding compliances with stiff penalties for infringement. I discuss the act in the video below.

Pamela Dow thank you for the excellent article and well said on these deadly sins! Totally agree about improving the ‘operating standard’ - I’d call this a ‘readiness’ standard - ready to learn fast, and ready to adopt new and better ways of doing things at pace. We need a readiness standard that public servants can tailor to the requirements of their work and level of role. This means training has to be designed smartly so learners can easily develop new knowledge and ways of doing things in an applied way. Digital skills don’t exist in a vacuum - they exist in a real job context. Public servants need to be empowered to build their own relevant digital skills toolkits, and they need to know how to select from these to problem solve and innovate effectively and efficiently. 100% agree about not believing the hype and you know how passionately we feel at PUBLIC about the relationship between user centricity and tech products that work and get adopted at scale - it’s a two-way street - everybody will learn faster if the products are designed for them. THIS IS A PERSONAL ACCOUNT Assistant District Attorney General - Trial attorney handling criminal cases. Opinions my own.
Law students, Many of you are interested in becoming DA's. In almost every state, there is a statewide organization for all of the DA's offices. These organizations are fantastic resources. Often, they have a listiing of all of the District Attorney Offices, some also have job boards. And, they usually have contact information for the various offices. If you are still looking for an internship for the summer, or you graduate this Spring, and you wanting to be a DA, hopefully this post can help. As an example, here is a link to Georgia's DA org:

It's a hard pill to swallow, but if we're being honest, the way most media companies make money has always been a bit ethically murky. This isn't a brand-new problem that just popped up with the rise of the internet. It's been around for ages, well before our current digital era. 🤷🏻♀️ The Past Wasn't Perfect Either We like to look back at the days before the Y2K as the golden era of journalism. Icons like the Financial Times and The Washington Post developed standards for the industry. But even then, the balance between earning a profit and unbiased reporting was tricky. There were stories of some newsrooms choosing profits or comfort over telling the whole truth, while others stuck to their guns, no matter what. 🤦🏻♀️ Today's Mess Now, the media has lost everything everywhere all at once: Quality, Trust, AND money! In their scramble to find new revenue sources, media companies often face a choice between bad and worse, all while struggling to stay within ethical boundaries that have been around for centuries. Yet, there’s a stubborn refusal to acknowledge that any decision made in desperation is likely to stray over those long-established ethical lines.

The Supreme Court will soon consider two social media cases out of Florida and Texas. Although the primary focus of the litigation is content moderation, the laws also contain provisions seeking greater transparency from the platforms, which have implications for social science research. CSMaP filed an amicus brief in the case to emphasize: 1.) The importance of independent platform research 2.) How data access will help researchers, the public, and policymakers better understand the way platforms influence public discourse and democracy. Thank you to Darren Linvill, Patrick Warren, and Filippo Menczer for joining the brief, and to New York University School of Law's Technology Law and Policy Clinic for helping us write it.

Associate Dean, Career & Professional Development, Columbia University School of Public Health ✰Author ✰Career Coach ✰Speaker ✰Public Health Workforce Researcher & Advocate
Federal government career experts... what do you think of the proposed revisions to the Student Pathways Programs, including PMF? It seems like the plusses are that AmeriCorps members (such as Public Health AmeriCorps) might have eligibility for conversion to competitive hires; but the conversion eligibility for Pathways would also be opened to people who have completed an Apprenticeship program or postgraduate certificate or some other industry training, as opposed to a college degree. On the one hand, great for improved equity and inclusion in federal hiring. On the other hand, perhaps this means more competition for federal jobs for those who have spent the time and energy to pursue graduate education. What do people think? https://lnkd.in/gvaciYcD AJ Pearlman Robin SchlingerKathryn TroutmanCamille Carboneau Roberts
