Here’s why you should consider incorporating these into your daily life as well… Eat real food Nutrient-dense food that gives your body all the protein, fat, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients it needs. And focus on eating many non-starchy vegetables because they contain thousands of medicinal, life-extending phytonutrients. Get quality sleep Lack of sleep drives most of the hallmarks of aging, especially inflammation, mitochondrial damage, and altered hormonal and nutrient-sensing pathways. Aim for 8 hours of good quality sleep. You can improve your sleep by sticking to a sleep schedule, avoiding screens before bed, creating a dark and quiet space, and much more. Exercise Preserving, building, and optimizing muscle function are the keys to the fountain of youth. Try weight lifting, resistance bands, and body-weight exercises. Ideally, do three strength-training days each week to build and maintain your muscles and increase your mitochondria, which in turn will increase your energy, fat-burning, and longevity. On other days, I get outside for a hike or a bike ride or practice some yoga. Practice stress management Chronic stress increases the risk of chronic diseases. Try online guided meditations, regular yoga, writing down your deepest feelings, or talking to your close friends. Hot and cold therapy Hot and cold therapy improves cardiovascular fitness, heart rate variability, insulin sensitivity, cognitive health, and blood sugar and blood pressure levels. Any heat therapy works, including saunas, infrared saunas, steams, hot baths, hot springs, and even hot yoga! Finding a way— even just a hot bath—to regularly boost your temperature is an easy, cheap, and rejuvenating strategy to improve your health span and address the root causes of aging. I then love to follow up the hot therapy with cold therapy. I either fill up my tub with ice-cold water, take a cold plunge, or take a cold shower.

Great tips and reminder. To improve quality of life and health we need to start with the basics. Often they are overlooked. Whilst all require some level of effort, they form the foundation of life and have the greatest impact. I've seen time and time again the power of eating whole foods and incorporating regular movement, in particular exercise that connects mind and body and improving sleep quality has over people and the power it has in healing symptoms. In addition to all of this it is helpful to look at one's home environment, relationships and purpose in life with gratitude and love up there as well.

The thing I like to do every day, and really the only thing guaranteed to extend my longevity, is not to die. Has worked literally every single day for almost 62 years.

Great reminder. I’m off to advocate for these today at work. Your readers might find the series I’m writing on the nutrient dense benefits of the Mediterranean eating regime. Insightful! Since our food and food sources often are not enough to get the all nutrients and in the quantity and quality our bodies needs, We must consider adding nutraceuticals to our daily eating routine. The key is the quality and absorption of the nutraceuticals. The unregulated, vitamin and supplemental industries are problematic. Often the labels are inadequate, often misleading on the over the counter result available. There are new and better sources of nutraceuticals. A year ago in May 2023 a new company launched here in the Us and in 14 countries. THREE International has been disruptive to the industry. The mission, the science and the leadership of this company has focused on proactive wellness. Giving us the product and the delivery system of cellular absorption that has made a huge difference, A significant change. I invite you to contact me more information.

Awesome. And I think it would be great if you would describe your strategies in detail, as "real food" for many is a reflection of their reality, i.e a 5 star Michelin meal for instance. If people should emulate what you do, give them the tools to do so and the explanations behind your strategies. For instance how do you determine you have no qualitative sleep issues, what does exercise comprise daily for you, what practices do you employ for stress management, and how do you integrate "hot and cold therapy" at home? And most importantly how do you measure your success outside of feeling great!

Thank you, Dr. Hyman, for being an exemplary source of health wisdom. I didn’t realize the full benefits of hot and cold therapy until now. I tried ending my showers with cold water but found it uncomfortable and stopped. With this reminder of its benefits, I’m motivated to try again and get used to it! Luckily, I have access to a cryotherapy center with both a sauna and a cryo chamber, which will make it easier to incorporate this into my routine.

All great tips producing immediately noticeable effects. I especially appreciate the contrast therapy. As a cryotherapy enthusiast, I've noticed positive effects and find the impact on blood levels of beta-endorphins is particularly interesting in its regard to stress management and overall mood-boosting effect. Sprinkle in a little sunshine it's a golden feel-good recipe. 👏👏
