What happens when you look past the media portrayal? Discover a raw, real Jada Pinkett Smith on The Diary of a CEO. 🎙️ I recently tuned into a riveting episode of The Diary of a CEO where Steven Bartlett hosts Jada Pinkett Smith. A conversation that peeled back layers, shedding light on the complexities of relationships, self-worth, and the dire effects of media misinterpretations. Here are my key takeaways: Jada and Tupac's Relationship: The duo had an incredibly complex and close bond. When Tupac died they weren't on speaking terms, because Jada "dug her heels in on an issue that "was absolutely nothing" She now applies a simple test in conflicts: "Will this matter on your deathbed?" It's a poignant lesson on setting ego aside and valuing relationships. Different Love Languages: Jada and Will Smith had contrasting ways of expressing love. Will aimed to create a masterpiece of his work, providing for her every desire, while Jada aimed to foster a deeper connection between them, leading to complications in their relationship. The Pursuit of Happiness: Jada once believed that giving herself to Will's dreams would result in shared happiness. It was only after some resentment and a reality check that she realized the onus of making herself happy rested solely with her. It's a gentle reminder that happiness is a personal endeavor. I must admit, I wasn't a fan of Jada before this interview. However, this podcast peeled back layers of misunderstood narratives, revealing a raw and reflective journey of Jada’s life. It got me reflecting on my own perceptions and life too. It's a hearty ★★★ stars from me! Catch the full episode here. Ever had a change of heart about someone after learning more about them? My latest podcast: I'm not usually very good at self-promotion, but it hurts when your employers/former employers won't even publicize work you've done that really makes them look good. Sadly, this goes way beyond me. The mainstream news media's reluctance to do excellent work, or even work that would improve its profits, is a REALLY bad sign for our society. Check it out:

Oh, No! Another Name Change (and that's not all!) Teri's Ruby Slippers, my newsletter about travel is now Teri's Doing It! I still write about travel but now it's also about making a list of things I want to do (before it's too late) and then doing them. I can't adequately express how meaningful these connections with you have been in 2023. It's been a great year of love, laughs, travel, and stepping outside my comfort zone doing things that stretched me. Thank you. So, twice a month (sometimes more) I'll be publishing (for paid subscribers and founding members) "Teri's Bedtime Stories" where I read selected stories aloud. Free subscribers always get a sample too. And stay tuned for several other exciting features coming soon: 1. Teri's Talking, a podcast where I sit down for an in depth chat with new and old friends cut from the same Carpe diem cloth; and 2. a "We're Doing It!" feature where you'll learn about things that need doing and how we can help! For today though, lots of thanks and a sample of my first Bedtime Story. I hope you enjoy it.
