Recently, I overheard a well-known creative director in our industry say, of a very talented editor, "If he's so good, then why is he available?"
This attitude is trash.
Never before have we had such an incredible pool of top talent, available and looking for work. If you're in the trailer industry, chances are you can name three PHENOMENAL editors who aren't staffed anywhere and are looking for their next gig. (If you know me, you can at least name one 😉 )
Many shops have let go of half of their editors. This doesn't make us the bottom half of talent. Some of us are senior-level and cost more to keep around. It's a budget issue, not a talent issue.
If your shop has a hiring need, I URGE you to take a look at available talent before you go scouring the rosters of other shops. I'm seeing way too many "lateral moves" and not enough unattached editors getting picked up. Not naming names, but We Can do better.
